1964 Volkswagen Type III 1500S Additional Info:
I am offering this very original, unrestored, unmodified(except for engine) 1964 VW Notchback 1500s Type III. As you can tell from the photos the vehicle has not been lowered, customized or tweeked like most that come up for sale. The nice thing about that is you have the option to keep as is, restore to original condition, or modify to YOUR liking(not someone elses). The car has great bones! It appears to have had one older repaint in it's original color - Perlweiss - upon close inspection there are some small rust bubbles, minor dents/dings, etc. It could be described as a "10 footer". The body is very straight - appears to have all it's original body panels. Gaps are excellent - doors, hood and trunk all open and close with ease. The rear floor pans have had some repairs/ patching. Front floors appear original and in nice / solid condition. I would describe the vehicle as a very solid, mostly rust free California Car. I also have the original 1500s owners manual and two sets of keys. I recently obtained the vehicle from a guy who had the vehicle for a couple of years. He had intentions of customizing it but never got around to it due to several other projects. He found an all original 13 window bus that he HAD to have and this Notchback was taking up the garage space. When he originally bought it - it had the original 1500 engine in it. Unfortunately he got rid of the original tired engine and replaced it with a larger motor that is now in the vehicle. There is some paperwork on the engine but it is not clear on the size - one part says its an 1898cc - another that it is 2007cc. I took the car to VW Paradise in San Marcos - they added a breather box due to the larger engine size, replaced a cracked generator belt and did a slight carb adjustment. Although I didn't have them do a complete diagnostic testing, their only other recommendation was replacement of the steering box and dampner. The car steers/handles fine so I chose not to do that repair at this time. The engine runs out good - idles smooth and accelerates well. The transmission is a 4 speed and shifts well - no grinding with shifts up or down. Electrical is in good order - all of the lights including headlights, brakelights, turn signals(including the side fender signals), dash lights, dome light, gas gauge, speedometer, odometer, wipers - all in working order. Clock is NOT working. Original Sapphire radio is NOT working. Windows roll up and down without problems and rear windows are pop outs. The headliner is excellent - door panels very nice except for the speaker additions in the front. Carpet is in nice condition and appears to have been replaced at some time. The seat covers are a combination of vinyl and cloth. I have tried to research to the best of my ability to determine if the seat covers are original. They appear to be old based on the wear and aging of the vinyl - and they appear to be a match to the door panels which I definitely feel are original. With that being said I can not say with certainty that the upholstery is original. If anyone out there knows I would appreciate the input. I am listing the car with, what I feel, is a very low reserve / and a very reasonable buy it now price. Feel free to contact me anytime at (661)203-8472 - My name is Randy. I will be happy to answer any specific questions or take additional pictures of any areas you do not see in the photos. I have a clear CA title on the vehicle and will also provide a Bill of Sale upon completion of the auction if necessary. I have tried my best to describe the pros and cons of the vehicle to avoid too many questions but I am sure I have left some things out. Please remember the vehicle is over 50 years old and is not in restored condition so will have flaws. Good luck and happy bidding!
