If you are NOT a mechanical person or you want a stock VW Vanagon STOP NOW and read NO further this van is NOT for you.
I am selling this Vanagon and all the VW diesel stuff that I have accumulated over the years.
This has been a very reliable work van for me for many years but I’m looking for a newer van with a higher top
Great winter project for Non Stock Vanagon.
Would make a great Eco- camper
The interior is in fair condition for being a work truck
This could be up and road worthy in a short period of time to any one with mechanical inclination
The body is very solid for a 1986, Seam rust almost non existing, some rust around back glass.
two of the door latches need some work, the doors will close but The side door needs to be opened from the inside with a screw driver, the front passenger side opens but the latch hook needs to be pushed up with finger to close.
The conversion has a Kep adapter for gas or diesel inline 4.
Currently has an rebuilt late 1970’s scirocco engine with lower miles but exact actual mileage unknown
the rear mounts are custom using generic rubber motor mounts.
If you’re really a stickler and want the stock Vanagon diesel rear mounts keep in mind, you can still use this vehicle daily while you try to find the stock ones.
The van comes with a crapload of VW diesel stuff
1TD Block with about 10K miles I have the TD head for this block cleaned and ready for rebuild.
1 TD longblock Miles unknown
2 NA Longblocks one with hydraulic head(70K) 1 with mechanical head(100K) And has 4 speed tranny attached.
Also just a slew of misc. parts ( Turbo injector pump, Two turbochargers with turbo manifold, some suspension parts fort rabbit/jetta
The engine is in and running but the throttle linkage still needs to be hooked up so it will have to be towed.
I’m currently have an old SU on just to show the engine runs, seems to run and rev well or you can run stock carb.
The Su carbs once dialed in are known for good fuel economy.
Automatic trans shifts well
will trade for a van that has higher headroom (transit, sprinter P-10 step van I will add cash )
My back is out and I can't bend like I used t, so I can’t finish the rest of the work on this van.
This van had 1.6 turbo diesel for a long time but was still underpowered.
I have owned this van for Years and have driven it to Fla. and Back to Pittsburgh a few times.
The diesel engine, even with a turbo (72 HP) hated the mountains and was tricky to merge when an extra bit of oomph was needed.
Once in Fla the van was great. flat and much better fuel economy.
That said the gas engine should be a big power improvement especially with the auto trans.
I’ve never used one but I think a TDI will fit in, but you will need all the computer stuff.
I intended to finish but I’m too old and not enough time.
As mentioned I would trade plus add cash for a transit, sprinter, maybe the right P-10 step van or high top van.
Call 412- 741-6339 If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment to see it.
I’m willing to negotiate if you come and get it before October 27
Bring your flat bed and take it all.
