RARE, 1955 Triumph TR2, Short-Door, Last year made, this is the 119th one made in '55.
I have owned many LBC's in my past, including Stags. Every big British Car Show I have attended, there's always only one TR2. It's that Light Green with Red interior and it is a jaw dropper. I always told myself, "Someday I'll Get One". But with the extreme rarity ofthis car that was only made for 3 years, in limited numbers no less, and values climbing, I figured a TR2 wouldnever berealistic.Well, Never say Never!
THE STORY:
This car has been in dry storage since 1975. The former owners health had deteriorated and it was parked with pride. It sat for decades, with just a monthly running in the garage. Finally the owner passed away, so when it was offered to me, it had not been started in over a year. Upon inspection, I found the missing key under the Drivers seat cushion! The car had been undisturbed for a very long time, but was all there!Alas, I still figured this would be a long term project, as it had not been driven in years. But, it had a Hardtop, Side Curtains, Boot Cover, Spare Tire, Jack, Workshop Manual, all gauges, rubber floor mats, solid floors, virtually rust free. The last straw is when I opened the trunk. It was like an American Picker episode: Old license plates, fan belts, a light green car cover, Indiana State map, baseball; it was like a grade school time capsule! So, I asked myself, when's the last time you ever saw a TR2, let alone one For Sale? Seriously? So I did an Advanced Search on eBay. There were NONE. I have been a passionate British carguy for over 40 years. So, with fingers crossed,I jumped at the chance!
I had great plans for this car as its been on my bucket list (and every other TR enthusiast's) for decades. Had a restoration strategy in the place. The journey started with getting it running since the engine turned free. With a cleaning of the original glass fuel filter and air thru the fuel lines, inspection of the fuel tank passing, we put a battery to it and starting fluid in the twin carbs......it started.......and ran.....and ran, and RAN. Totally amazed, the journey continued.
My Goal was to restoreit and have a Show Car. It would also serve as a great investment as the value has continually climbed. I had hoped to send it off to the legendary Macy's Garage in Ohio who is the TR guru.
Well, a change in plans occurred. Life does that. So, I simply need to sell the little TR to a good home. The buyer needs to have Purpose, Pride & Passion. This is really needs to go to a collector or someone who will love it. This car can easily be on the road, but I would hope that someone would restore it to it's original glory.
