Mechanically the engine and drivetrain are functioning without any problems. The engine fires up, cold or hot, without issue. The idle is steady at all times. The gear changes are smooth and direct, with no sign of the transmission slipping or shifting abruptly. The push button 4WD system functions perfectly, and goes in and out of 4WD with ease. The power comes on quickly and the turbo spools freely at all RPMs. The 2L-TE is a great engine, and is by no means 'slow' (which is a common misconception of diesel engines). Compared to the US market equivalent which came with a disappointing V6 engine prone to head gasket failure and overheating, this Japanese market vehicle is equipped with a turbo diesel platform which excels in performance, fuel economy, longevity, and really transforms this vehicle into something much more impressive than it's US counterpart. The exterior is not perfect, but it's very impressive for it's age. The worst cosmetic imperfections are clear coat peeling on the driver side fender,small dents to the passenger side forward portion of the wheel arch,and a shallow dent on the driver side quarter panel. The paint is in good shape, retaining much of it's original luster, however there are small scratches here and there. It's not a perfect body, but it still looks amazing. Also, the critical rust prone areas along the frame rails, floor boards, shock towers, fender wells, and suspension mounts are free from rust.

The interior is in very nice shape, with no rips in the fabric, no large stains, an un-cracked dash, and every accessory fully functioning. There are no abnormal smells, and there are no inclinations that his vehicle was smoked in. The rear window also operates effortlessly.
