So . . . if you know what this is, you will understand the price. You won't find another one like this for this price on eBay. 1976 Toyota BJ40 Landcruiser. 4 Speed on the floor, solid front axle. This machine came from Costa Rica; it has 4 wheel disc brakes (aftermarket and very rare), and power steering (equally rare). I have a current NC Title in hand and it is tagged as an Antique. You might have a couple of questions: 1) does it have rust? It's a 50yr old Landcruiser, so yes, it has rust, but nothing compared to most of the Cruisers this age. There are small spots on the hood, fenders, bib, and doors and a couple places on the bottom of the hardtop, but the floorboards, cowl, rear doors, and engine well are remarkably clean. The frame has NO rust. The paint is an overspray that looks good from a distance--solid and effective, but not perfect. 2) does it smoke on start-up? Yes. It's a 50 yr old diesel--it smoked when it came new from the factory. The engine is the original 1B 3.0 gear driven, naturally aspirated diesel; I think it has about 90 hp . . . it will climb a tree in 1st gear and start off in 2nd gear with ease. The truck has a new aluminum radiator and a new thermostat. The tires have less than 5000 miles on them. I just changed the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, and air filter. 3) Why are you selling it? This truck is in good enough condition both body-wise and drivetrain-wise as to be a candidate for full, off-body restoration. I currently have neither the time, the money, nor the inclination for such an endeavor, so I would rather it go to someone who could restore it to its full glory. 4) Will you take $5000? No, you're an idiot: don't waste your time or mine. The top and back doors in this shape are worth $5k on any Landcruiser. This is an F'in diesel Landcruiser. I know the market fairly well--I've owned seven--2 FJ40s, an HJ40, this BJ40, a BJ60, an FJ62, and a JDM RHD Prado. Restored, these diesel BJ40s go for $50k+ all day. I will entertain reasonable offers, but low-ball offers will be ignored and/or cursed.
