1970 Toyota Land Cruiser Additional Info:
Toyota Land Cruiser, FJ40, 1970.This truck is an honest truck in very good original condition. Sold new in Prineville it passed through two owners before I got it. The second owner took it off the road a few months ago and started to overhaul the engine. He is 85 years old and his wife convinced him to buy a brand-new truck which he did and let the Cruiser go, a decision he later regretted.I am about to get my building permits approved and will spend the next year building our new home and think it prudent to sell this project now.It has a 12,000 lb. winch and tow bar. Its single modification was to install a power steering set up which I'm told makes the truck much easier and quicker to drive by which I mean the turn to turn is much faster than the old worm and sector set up that is like turning a large battleship from original. The license plates still have time on them as the truck has only been off the road 6 or 7 months. Should the truck sell out of state I will keep those two oldies. There is a 2011 LS chevy engine out of a friends wrecked Silverado truck. It has 145,000 miles on it and was in perfect running condition when the truck was totaled. It will cost about the same amount of money (in my estimation) to either overhaul the original engine or buy the kit to put in the LS engine into this truck. You get to decide. The swap is probably one of the easiest swaps to perform and will really wake up this rig. Just go with a light foot on the pedal. All the original engine components are still there as well as some new piston rings, gasket set and a few other bits. The valves have been ground but I don't know if hardened seats were installed or if they are already in. Gasoline was still leaded then so maybe not.The undercarriage presents well, and the two rusty spots are not very bad and could be repaired if you have intermediate welding skills fairly easily. Those panels are flat and will be very repairable with entry level tools. This could be a super fun father and son/daughter project. Not many better ways to get your kids attention and have a great time doing it. Of course, if you're like me but have some time it will be a ton of fun no matter who you are.
This is a good honest truck, it will be a fun, easy project! It has been a daily use since 1970, with the exception of the last 7 months when the owner, in Pineville Oregon, took it apart to give it a valve job.
This will make an incredibly fun truck! There is also a roll bar that goes with the truck, which maybe factory, I am not sure on this. Of course, the top is removeable and the windshield folds down flat. I can send you photos of the roll bar if you would like that as well.
