1982 Toyota Land Cruiser Base Additional Info:
Go Ahead.. Find a cleaner FJ, I dare you.
I can't believe the time has come, but I've decided to list my 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser for sale. As with many of us, this vehicle represents my teenage dream come true and while she's been a joy to own, life has moved forward leaving little time to enjoy this remarkable vehicle. I won't get into the rarity of the final years, and the history of the Toyota Land Cruiser. I'm sure if you're reading this, you already know all about the heritage and history of these lovely old trucks. I will do the best of my ability to describe the current condition of this FJ-40 and encourage all interested parties to come take a look for yourself. This one won't disappoint. The photos do a great job of describing the condition which in my opinion is superb. The paint is lovely and shines like new. The top and wheels are a matching off white that I'll call cream. She sports BF Goodrich KM's in the old style which look just right on these old 40's but are sadly no longer available. These tires have less than 3000 miles on them. All systems function as new, from the power steering, to the brakes, fuel system, charging system etc. She has been garaged 100% of the time she has been in my possession. I take her out a few times a season and only on perfect, sunny days. There is absolutely NO RUST to speak of. Anywhere. All of the sheet metal is gorgeous. You will not find Bondo or any type of body filler ANYWHERE on this Cruiser.
Lift the mats, peer under the frame, knock all over the rear quarter panels and rear doors where these things usually rot and you'll hear the lovely sound of solid metal. The interior is easily the nicest one I've ever seen and I've seen a few sub 50k mileage originals. She has a New Old Stock full rubber front floor mat which at least when I purchased the truck was "unobtainium." A friend of mine with an old Toyota dealership actually had one still in stock from years and years ago and after a few years of begging, finally sold it to me. I keep this covered in the driver and passenger floor wells by beautifully made, cut to fit, floor mats which look terrific and protect the original mat. They also help to insulate the driver and passenger from the transmission. The rear jump seats are mint as well as the belts which adorn them. They flip up and down as intended and are great fun to haul the niece and nephew around. The rear floor is covered by a matching mat to the front which hides the beautifully smooth blue rear floor beneath. The roll cage, and headliner are mint with NO sag or sloppiness in the liner which seems all too common when these are replaced. Not a single tear, stain or issue with the headliner. It is mint! I'm not going to list every bit and piece that has been serviced or replaced over the years. If parts were needed, they were sourced from Toyota and installed professionally. Most bits and pieces that have been replaced over the years were saved and will go with the truck. The original door panels which were in great original shape with NO speaker holes cut just didn't look good enough for me and were replaced with much more durable replacements. They look identical but are not originals. The originals will come with the truck.
I never liked the look of the cluttered cab with the AC equipment and so it is not currently installed, but all AC parts in my possession will come with the truck as well. This truck, being a Pennsylvania vehicle for the past decade has been "de-smogged" in an effort to de-clutter the engine compartment and improve the fuel economy, so all CA buyers, please take note. The carburetor was professionally rebuilt and tuned and I credit the work of the mechanic with the dead reliability of this Cruiser ever since. Whether 3 weeks or 3 months between start-ups, she fires up every time with 2 pumps of the gas pedal, a pull and twist of the choke and a smooth turn of the key. The ignitions on these things wear out as keys are copied and copied again. As a result of this, I replaced ALL the locks on this Cruiser with OEM originals right down to the rear ambulance door and have Toyota keys for ALL. The ignition is OEM new replacement as well with beautiful Toyota matching keys. The bottle jack is neatly stored behind the driver's seat with a full original tool kit nearby. A new Owner's Manual resides in the glove box with other paperwork etc that ALL comes with the truck. This Land Cruiser has never seen ethanol fuel during my ownership and her tank was replaced with an OEM tank several years ago which gleams inside when illuminated from the filler neck. I've always kept the tank filled to the top with Premium ethanol Free fuel. Does she require premium fuel? Heck no, but it's the only ethanol free option locally available. She will come to you with a full tank. The suspension has been tuned for a suitably soft and squishy ride which feels appropriate for a cruiser intended to be driven as I have driven her. She is NOT set up for hard off-roading but I've got the extra OME leafs to make her as stiff as you'd like and yes, they'll come with the Cruiser as well. The 4WD engages and disengages with little to no effort and the hubs lock and unlock as they should. The truck pulls hard and stops quickly. The power steering really makes turning those big tires effortless. She currently sports an Optima Yellow top which is always kept on a tender in the garage. The interior knobs all function as intended and the heater blows hot to keep you toasty on these lovely autumn days. The foot vents pop easily in and out to direct cool air over your tootsies in the hot summer months and boy do I wish my other vehicles had this feature!
The top has never been removed during my ownership although I've always thought it would be a hoot to drive it topless. Also included with the truck are soft "half doors," a bikini top, and painted to match rear gate for when the top is removed and all OEM pieces that I've replaced during my ownership. I never throw anything away, so there's a lot of bits and pieces in a few crates. The original floor skirts are among those which install with snaps around the floor beneath the driver's and passenger's seat. I just think it looks nicer without them, but they're in great shape. I've got brand new belts which were never installed, the originals look and function great. AC equipment, and plenty of things I'm forgetting. Of course the Title is clean, clear and in hand ready to be transferred. I'm sure there are things I'm forgetting to mention and will update the listing as I see fit. Questions are welcome through eBay or please feel to call at 814-319-4903 between 10am - 10pm. I will return calls promptly. Thanks for looking and happy Cruising! -Chris
