1986 Toyota Other Additional Info:
Exceptionally nice, ultraclean, 2 owner, 1986 Toyota Hilux 4x4 Extra Cab Pickup Truck runs and drives as good as it looks with absolutely zero mechanical issues.
You're looking at original paint. Yes, that's the original factory red paint but you'd never know it until you get a couple feet away and then you can see the patina of the roof and hood which have some fading as do a couple of other minor spots where the paint is thinning. The only body blemish is a minor one shown in a picture on the passenger side bed near the extra cab window plus a small ding in the very bottom left rear corner beneath the tailgate which is hard to see precisely because it's so minor. This Arizona truck has never been wrecked. Zero rust. Zero bondo. By Zero Rust I mean on a scale of 1 to 10 it's a 10. That means if you were to scrape off all the rust on this truck that you could find, including the suspension and exhaust, the powder might weigh an ounce. There's just no rust on this truck, period.
199K miles. Legendarily reliable 22R was recently professionally rebuilt with new timing chain, chain guides and rebuilt cylinder head with new Weber carburetor from LC Engineering. ($2900 in receipts included). Always starts with a click of the key. Runs like a sewing machine. Smooth, quiet and powerful for a 2.4L. No smoke, no knocks, no rattles, no leaks, no issues. Performs flawless. Just passed emissions better than new with idle reading of carbon monoxide (CO %) at 0.00 (see picture). That means it's tuned so perfect and running so clean that if you tried to kill yourself by sucking on the tailpipe or locking yourself in a garage with it running you'd likely never pull it off! Point is to get those numbers from a State that copies California Emissions means it runs superb.
New oversized V6 aluminum radiator (shown in 1st engine pic) keeps it running super cool. Gauge rarely goes above 25%. New battery. New fuel pump. New NGK plugs, wires and distributor cap (all shown in pics). New wiper blades. Absolutely no leaks anywhere on this vehicle. We pride ourselves on this fact.
Heavy duty (compared to the 85 down trucks) 5 Speed W56 manual transmission shifts incredibly smooth. Clutch works perfect. Feels tight. Aisin manual lockout hubs (which are the strongest and most reliable humans have ever built) along with 2 speed gear driven transfer case engages the 4x4 ultra smooth and quiet as designed. These factory gear driven units are rock crawler tough. This is a Toyota after all.
Gear oil and motor oil just changed in every case and cooling system flushed (of course when V6 radiator installed).
4.10 factory gears in both differentials. Rear differential upgraded to a heavy duty V6 unit with bigger bearings.
Interior is super clean. Everything works as it should. SR5 seats are plush and flawless from a 95 4Runner with only 94k milkes. They have big pockets in the back suitable for holding maps, tools or guns. There is no radio deck installed so you can design your own sound system. This truck did not come with AC from the factory but the rare vent windows work great at directing air flow.
Factory chrome 15x7 wheels on good 31 x 11.5 x 15 BFG All Terrain Radials.
New Pro-Comp Nitrogen shocks and ceramic brakes on all 4 corners. Stops great. Front suspension has all new parts including control arm bushings, ball joints, idler arm, pitman arm, and tie rod ends.
Spray on bedliner. Class 3 receiver hitch securely mounted to frame out back with removable Clevis recovery point.
Truck drives amazingly tight like new. Steering is nimble and smooth, just like it has all new everything which it does. 75 mph down the Interstate with one finger on the wheel is no problem. Like a typical Toyota there's just no rattles. That's because every fastener on these trucks down to the wipers use fine thread machine bolts which have more surface area and therefore stay tighter longer. Other vehicle makers only use fine thread bolts on their engines and transmissions so they become loose and rattly before their time.
You can jump in this truck and drive it straight to New Jersey and back and it won't need anything but fuel. Even comes with a full tank of gas!
This is probably the only factory truck you could enter in the Baja 1000 as is and it would finish so long as you didn't crash it. Simple and rugged. It doesn't even have a computer so it'll be using zombies for traction on all 4 wheels should the electro-magnetic pulses come.
If you've never seen the British "Top Gear" episodes where they try to kill while torturing this same Hilux pickup over multiple episode (it was even red) just Google it. Turns out they couldn't kill it.
No wonder when you see news video of war torn parts of the world with guerilla fighters with AK47's in the back of pickups the tailgate always reads TOYOTA. There's virtually no exception across the planet. Just think about it.
Of course this classic comes with an "A" box notarized AZ title along with a fresh passed AZ emissions slip.
This truck is eligible for the copper Historic plates. It's also eligible for collector car insurance in ANY STATE which means outfits like Grundy Worldwide or Haggerty Collector Car Insurancewill offer a $5000 full coverage policy for only $80 per year and you never have to go through emissions again! You heard me right. It's a fact you can get insurance for less than $7 per month on this truck so long as you declare it not a daily driver and are able to email a few pictures of it in a garage.
The many PROS of this antique vehicle have all been spelled out above. The few CONS are listed below. 1) There is a small blemish on the sheet metal & paint of the passenger side bed near the extra cab window shown close in a picture. 2) There is a small dent in the left rear corner of the lower tailgate valance that is barely noticeable. 3) In the interior there are cracks with shards of plastic missing from the 2 A-pillar plastic covers.) 4) The factory dash pad, which has a nice aftermarket black carpet cover over it, has normal cracking from the sun. This is all disclosed in the center console pictures.
This vehicle has been described as honestly and as accurately as possible. It needs absolutely nothing and if maintained properly has the potential to run great from now until the Sun runs out of Hydrogen. No warranty is expressed or implied herein.
