One of the last fully hand-crafted automobiles built in America, the Avanti II carries on the tradition of the original Avanti introduced by Studebaker in the 1963 model year. A notable design that was ahead of its time when first introduced. Yet over 55 years later the Avanti design still invokes attention, conversation, and an appreciation of how far ahead Studebaker was in terms of design. Like few of its contemporaries, this hand-crafted marvel announces you've arrived.
This 1985 Avanti II comes to us from a private collector who was once an employee of Studebaker, and appreciates the beauty, innovation, creativity and design that went into some of America's most advanced automotive markes. Although now part of history, the Studebaker is a car that should be explored to be appreciated.
This stunning example has amassed slightly more than 10,000 MILES since originally hand-crafted in Indiana and remains in its original and unrestored condition. All Avanti's were built as bespoke models, and this particular car was ordered with the Touring Coupe package, including all black interior, exterior, and trim. The lightweight Western black mesh wheels are similar to those employed on the Buick GNX of the day. The interior features leather covered RECARO articulating bucket seats, along with real wood veneered console and full gauge cluster. The thick pile black carpeting makes the leather stand out even further and is plush enough to go barefoot.
Underneath the bespoke coachwork, this beauty is powered by the same GM 5.0-liter V8 and 700R4 overdrive transmission that powered the Z28 of the period. Avanti then did a little extra tuning to enhance performance to their standard.
Art & Speed is pleased to offer this one time chance to add such a unique and beautiful car to your collection. Always kept in a climate controlled environment by a meticulous collector, this is a rare opportunity to acquire such a low mileage, unrestored, and attentively cared for piece of history.
