1982 Studebaker Avanti II Additional Info:
We are selling our 1982 Avanti II we have owned for nearly ten years. We are the 2nd owner of the car, third counting the Dealer we purchased the car from. We can provide the Auto Check report on the car to serious buyers at no charge.
The car is very nice with no rust and a nice smooth straight body. Bumpers are beautiful. We put a new Chevy 350 crate engine in the car this past year along with a new larger aluminum radiator, new fuel pump, new battery, new PS pump, new plugs and wires, sent the power steering power cylinder and control valve to RockAuto for overhaul. Reinstalled with new power steering high pressure hoses. Al new engine hoses and belts.
The car is pretty original except for a LED tail and brake light conversion we had installed along with a high mounted brake light inside the rear glass. The original tail lights were just too dim to be safe. The wood steering wheel is a factory option and is on the original bill of sale. The car was originally ordered with a wood trimmed console and luggage rack but at the last minute was changed to a brushed aluminum center console and instrument panel and the luggage rack was deleted. The original owners keep the wood steering wheel which I have to admit looks pretty nice with the Navy interior and brushed aluminum.
We have only driven the car 500 miles since the new engine was installed last year. We also have an aircraft that takes up a lot of time and we simply don't drive this car as much as we should.
Since we have owned the car we have done the following:
Transmission cover removed, new filter and fluid.
Fuel tank was pulled and new filler hose installed along with new fuel and vent lines coming from the tank to solve a gas smell problem.
Air Conditioning system overhauled with original style rebuilt compressor, new thermostat, new condensor, Drier and all other parts needed to convert over from old freon to new R134A .
We reinstalled the original Rochestor 4 BBL carb but it could use a overhaul, starts and idles well but stumbles slightly when floorboarded.
The car starts easily idles and drives smoothly with lots of power. This is a car you can drive home, no need to ship. The brakes are excellent, air conditioning is ice cold, wipers, turn signals, lights and all instruments work perfectly including the clock. The cruise control does not work.
This car has been well cared for all of it's life and the interior and carpet are original. We have all paperwork and documents on the car from the day it left the factory. It is a comfortable highway cruiser and has no difficulty maintaining freeway speeds and the transmission has a factory high end cruise gear for good mileage and low rpms at 60 and 70 mph. Acceleration is brisk with the new engine and the 4 bbl Rochester has a throaty roar when the pedal is floored.
The car was repainted a few years before we bought it and it has two small spider web areas in the paint common to fiberglass cars, otherwise the car is really nice looking. The wire wheels have their original factory finish and their age is beginning to show but we chose not to refinish them. The could be removed, bead blasted and powder coated. I do not have a lift but will try and provide any additional photos you may need. I can also provide the name of the shop owner who maintains the car for us and did the engine change.
