1972 Saab Sonett III Additional Info:
You will be hard-pressed to find a nicer example of this rare sports car! I purchased this car in 1982 from the second owner and have enjoyed the fun of driving it over the years. I am selling now, as I no longer have the time to devote to driving it and hope to pass it on to another enthusiast. I have completed a great deal of restoration and improvements. The paint was stripped, any checking in the fiberglass repaired and new paint done (Dupont Imron) as well as repair of underbody rust after a front-end collision in 1984. The car has been garaged and driven only in summers since, and the paint is in excellent if not concours condition. Mechanical improvements include: performance exhaust, carburetor and intake manifold by Motor Sport Service as well as heads ported per SAAB rally specifications and enlarged valves placed, Mark 10 electronic ignition, VDO oil pressure and voltage gauges, replacement of engine balance shaft bearings and balance shaft fiber gear (a source of failure) with SAAB rally steel gear, freewheeling hub in transmission eliminated (another source of failure), clutch and hydraulics and brakes replaced less than 5,000 mi. Other improvements and points of interest include: all matching numbers, original SAAB AM/FM Stereo radio, Philips cassette deck, original SAAB locking gas cap and wiper arm assemblies, working wiper relay (usually non-functional), Bosch Euro halogen headlights, auxiliary halogen driving lights in grill (all lights function normally, including retractable headlight mechanism), bumpers and grill in excellent condition (rare), NOS exterior rear-view mirrors in pristine condition, original blue SAAB center caps in alloy wheels (extras also included), original complete factory service manual, owners manual and other manuals included in sale. Known issues: sagging headliner, possible clutch pressure plate broken spring (clutch throw at pedal limited), fuel gauge does not register above one-half mark, transmission fluid leak.
