RARE 3 speed automatic. Might be undesirable for many people, but it is very rare. Has some very new parts, like, rubber sprun, expensive flywheel (almost impossible to find, and is now almost new with very few miles on it)
I was told the timing belt(s) and water pump were replaced/ serviced about 3 years and 800 miles ago.
I only recently 'rescued' this car that was local to me. It has been parked for a year or two and not been started in that time. I needed to clean some electrical connections and whack the starter motor with a hammer and put a new battery in it... and it started easily and runs great!
Runs and drives, but currently the brake calipers are dragging on all 4 wheels so it can not be driven far. Posted price for this auction is for how the car is sitting / running right now. IF YOU WANT ME TO REPLACE ALL 4 CALIPERS and MAKE CAR TOTALLY ROAD WORTHY, I CA, BUT YOU HAVE TO CALL ME TO DISCUSS PRICE.
I bought it from the previous owner, who owned this car for about 25 + years, he told me. Owned through several states and decades of ownership, he and his family drove it very little.
The owner before him was the original, first owne, who operated a body shop (I was told) , and they wanted to make a convertible before the Porsche 944 was every offered as a convertible. The bodywork is therefore custom, but it looks exactly like a factory cabriolet / soft top convertible 944. The Porsche 944 was never made as a convertible in 198, nor was a 'regular' 944 ever made as a Cabriolet, so this is a very rare car. I do not know how much of this story is true, it is what I was told. I can tell you that this is a high quality job performed on this car a long time ago, and this is a low mileage car, and it has no rust. It is a bit of a project. It can be used and driven as it is now, after new brake calipers have been put on the car. It would look great with new paint or a wra, and it will also need some interior work (dash cracks / splits in seats) in order to be a 'perfect' car . Feels very solid, mechanically.
Car has ZERO RUST - None! But paint is tired. There is some flaking in areas.
The interior is also not in good condition - The dash has a few cracks, and the seats are also cracking / leather is old and dry / cracked/ stiff. Carpet is clean . Canvas soft top if doing its job fine, steel top frame is intact, but it is very 'stiff' and I have not tried to convert top to go down, it is raining here now and I do not want to tear the top .
All lights work.
A/C has been converted to R134, and the AC worked for me ! Blower motor works, heater works, lights all work.
As mentioned before, the brakes are dragging. (I would recommend replacing calipers, pads and brake hoses). DASH: Instruments all work. GREAT oil pressure, and engine does not overheat. 3 speed automatic transmission shifts great . Tires are 10 years old, but look great and have a lot of tread.
Body is mostly straight, but paint is fading / not glossy. Paint is all consistently one color all over the car, but looks like it may be different shades in some photos - but all the same color.
Bodywork was originally done by a professional shop and the quality of the work is done very well. Body appears to be strengthene, an, one last time, this car has no rust or corrosion, or accident damage that I can se, or any history of accident damage. Glass is all good. What else can I tell you ????
I can help have this vehicle transported anywhere in the USA at buyers expense (I have vehicles shipped every week, coming or going, for their new engines we fit here, or I can meet you at airport and you can drive this home, if you had called and paid me for new brakes and to get it ready for a road trip..8 Of course, this is a used vehicle and is sold as-i, where is, with no guarantees .
