"The 2.0's refined brakes and steering results in a phenomenal driving experience."
-Hagerty, "Car Profiles," October 2019
To say that the Porsche 914 has come into favor with collectors is an understatement. Over the past two years, valuations for well-maintained 914s have risen dramatically, especially so for cars with the more desirable 2.0-liter engine. As Hagerty noted, the "as if on rails" handling and low-to-the-road seating combine with a targa-top open-air sensation for a memorable sports car experience. The 914 offered here is just such an opportunity, with the added appeal of its from-the-factory "Lagunablau" (Laguna blue) exterior paint maintained in exceptional condition. The car's remarkably low 54,000 miles (just 1,200 per year on average) further add to its appeal.
The 914's exterior shows few, if any imperfections. Paint gloss on every surface is uniform. Even the paint near the door handles is un-scratched from fingernails. There are no rust bubbles or any other indications of body rust. Lighting lenses are free of damage; the windshield is free of cracks; the rear engine cover with its P-O-R-S-C-H-E lettering is complete. The targa top fits properly. Aftermarket wheels with Porsche-crest chrome center caps show no curb rash or wear marks. Rubber surfaces on the front and rear bumpers are not faded and appear to have never been damaged. The model-designation badge is properly mounted. Pop-up headlights operate as they should.
Inside the car, an aftermarket sport steering wheel is mounted, with the car's original wheel included in the sale. Similarly, aftermarket speakers have been added, but the original speakers come with the car. An aftermarket audio head unit is also in place. The car's instrumentation is complete, and lenses are clear, including on the console-mounted auxiliary gauges. The Porsche trademark textured "basketweave" dash surfaces are well maintained with original colorful switchgear, and the dash itself is free of cracks and fading from the sun. The five-speed shifter wears its original knob showing the shifting pattern. Black vinyl seat upholstery is neither cracked nor torn, and matching black carpeting is in very good condition. Even the area around the foot pedals is tidy. Floors are protected with 914-branded carpet mats. The interior areas of both the front and rear trunks are similarly clean and well-kept, a combination of metal surfaces painted in the body color, and black carpeting.
The engine compartment appears complete and orderly. From underneath, the car shows no signs of damage from too-aggressive driving, and with the exception of un-coated metal on components like the exhaust system, shows no rust at all. All data tags-including the paint identification sticker-remain in place.
The faithful-to-the-original condition of this Porsche 914 2.0 is presented in the more than 185 high-definition photographs, together with a short walk-around-and-startup video mentioned earlier, available at the GarageKeptMotors site. That said, there is no substitute for an in-person, up-close inspection. (Sorry... no "test auto-crossing" runs.) We do, however, encourage inspections by interested parties at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. We ask only that an appointment be made by phone or email in advance. Our showroom is not open to the public.
Hagerty titled their review: "Why the Porsche 914 still puts a grin on your face." Driving this Laguna blue example is sure to deliver on that score. And in these times, "grins" have a value all their own.
