Why I’m selling it- During the last few months, I bought a running, driving 2.0 914 and have lost interest in this lower hp sibling. An upcoming move is the last straw and I’m putting it on here for someone who is looking for a solid platform to resurrect.
Body- The car is 99% rust free. The only rust is a tiny spot at the hellhole (see the pic) and the need for another battery tray. The rest of the car is solid. There is a small puncture in the fender that looks like it may have been caused by something coming up from the road in the wheel well. It needs most of the upholstery and rubber although I did install brand new tires last year in a 195-60 15 size. The top is dried and the fiberglass gets on your hands. It will need to be sanded and repainted. The engine and transaxle are not in the car. The trunk is full of parts including the computer and all the intake parts. The paint has been abused by years of the New Mexico sun and will need to be renewed. This is the original color. All 4 hubcaps are present and a spare. Ignition and trunk keys all work. The drivers door handle broke after I got it but I believe I have a replacement that I may get put on before it’s picked up. I just fixed my other one for the same thing.
Engine- The engine is disassembled and in a corner of my shop. It seems like I was the first one in there. The odometer shows 43,215 miles but since I haven’t driven the car, I can’t verify it was working or if that’s original. The title is in my name and it states miles as 0, in excess of limits Engine wear would seem to indicate that it’s low mileage and unmolested. When I first got it. I cleaned the stuck injectors, replaced a few, replaced fuel pump with aftermarket, drained and filled the tank and she ran with one dead cylinder and a tapping from the engine. I pulled the drivetrain and disassembled the engine and found a valve guide had slipped down in the head, holding the valve open and causing the piston to tap it. No damage to the piston but I did purchase one valve, all new guides and a ring set. It still has standard pistons and there appears to be no wear on the cylinders. I have not honed them yet. The exhaust is original and has all the heater boxes and associated cables and parts. I did break part of a cooling fin during the disassembly, but I’ve heard mixed things about whether that’s critical. The coupling that connects the shift rod right behind the firewall also broke in my efforts to remove it. Otherwise, I saved every nut, bolt, tin, etc. It comes with a complete gasket set although I did take the valve cover gaskets for my other car.
I’m looking for an expedient sale and pickup so I’m throwing a low buy it now on this and hoping to have it out of here by mid August. It can’t be towed on it’s rear wheels due to the axles but I guess if you wanted to dolly it home backwards that would work. As I said, the tires are brand new. Buy this car and do the right thing. I have a little bit of guilt for letting it go and want it to go to a good home.
