History
I don’t have a complete history of the car but I do have some;
The car was purchased by an Air Force officer stationed at the Air Force Academy in June 1972. From the papers in the glove box it was apparently a European delivery. The first US dealer stamp is from July 72 in Colorado Springs CO.
At some time it was sold to another Air Force officer. He spent a lot of time overseas storing the car while he was gone. In approximately 1995 he decided this would be a good “father & son” restoration project. The car was disassembled, but the restoration was never started. It was stored in the Las Vegas area. After ten years the father had passed away and the son was living in San Antonio Texas. He contacted a nationally known Porsche independent shop in San Antonio with the intent to finish the project in honor of his dad. In the end the car was purchased by the shop with the promise to finish it in the original colors and correct “T” engine.
A local doctor purchased the project and agreed to original colors and 2.4 T engine with one exception – A/C.
A Factory Behr unit was installed with an R&R Aire under body condenser to improve the A/C for the Texas heat. The A/C system was converted to R-134 and a later dash with center vents was added.
The work was completed between 2005 and 2007. The car has only traveled 6000 miles in the last 10 years. It’s not being used as planned, so it’s time to pass it on to someone that may enjoy it more.
I took all the photos this month. No detailing, just wiped it off with ‘Speed Shine’, and wiped the interior, trunk and engine compartment with a damp cloth. Still looks like it did in 2007 when it was fresh out of the shop.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
GOOD
· Engine, Trans, Tires, interior, and paint were done 6000 miles ago.
· Photos of receipts in Dropbox album.
· Unusual color.
· No interior musty or smoke odors.
· New headliner, no cuts or stains.
· Tool Kit and jack.
· Original owners manual.
· Maintenance records for the major work and service since 2005.
· A/C updated.
· Brallie Battery.
· I saw this car in 2005 when it arrived in San Antonio. It was the most rust free long hood I’ve ever seen. No rust repair was required before repaint.
· Clear Texas Title.
BAD
· Sepia brown! Love it or hate it.
· Aftermarket radio.
· In one picture the driver door pocket is missing. I was adding a new bungee cord to help keep it closed. The pocket is on the car now. Neither side is perfect, but they open and close OK.
· No COA. However, the matching engine number is recorded in the owner’s manual/service record. I can’t imagine any reason for the transmission to have been changed.
UGLY
· Undercarriage and engine have never been cleaned/detailed, so you won’t win the PCA concours without some work! But, you can also see that there was never any hidden rust or repairs.
· Sun visors are a bit puffy, but still serviceable. In 2005 ‘Black & whites” were unobtainable, now you can get new ones from Porsche Classic.
· I will try to add photos of any flaws I see, circled in red. One very small rock chip on the hood, cut in front bumper rubber, small cut on bottom of driver side map pocket, touched up scratch below rear window visible when engine lid open. Scuff marks on RR bumper upright (not visible with the lid closed), Black anodizing on grill is faded/worn.
The Legal Stuff
I am not the owner, a dealer or broker. I am listing the car for a friend. I hate 'surprises' and will list any flaws that see or know of. I will take the car for a pre-purchase inspection to any dealer or independent shop of your choice in the San Antonio area at your expense.
The car is 45 years old and is being sold without a warranty of any kind.
The car is for sale locally and on other sites. I will end this auction early if we have a firm buyer. As mentioned below, I’ve had a number of non-paying buyers on eBay in the past.
A NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSITof $500 must be paid via PayPal within 48hours unless other arrangements have been made between buyer and seller. If there is no contact within 48 hours of the auction ending the auction will be canceled. I’m amazed how many non-paying bidders there are on eBay. Apparently it’s a game for some people.
