You are bidding on a 1959 Porsche 1600 coupe. This is a matching numbers car. I have a copy of the Kardex verifying this. The Kardex also shows that the car was delivered in silver paint with the very rare black upholstery. Almost all the silver cars came with red interiors and only a few were in black. The only accessories listed on the Kardex are sealed-beam headlights and USA bumpers.
The car is very original and doesn’t appear to have had any significant damage from accidents. There are no clips anywhere and it doesn’t appear to have ever had any rust repair in the past. Other than the change from silver to red paint sometime in the past, there do not appear to be any significant changes to the car from how it was delivered new.
I don’t know if the engine turns over, as I have not checked it, but you can be sure it will need a complete rebuild. The car has not been on the road since 1988.
As you can see in the pictures, this car will need plenty of sheet metal repairs, most of which can be seen in the pictures, along with floors, longitudinals, etc. It was stored in a carport for at least 10 years under a plastic cover, unfortunately, which probably accounts for the significant rust. However, it is a matching numbers car in a rare color combination, which makes its restoration worthwhile.
I expect payment within 5 days of the end of the auction. The car can be picked up after your check has cleared my bank. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, but I can give the name of a good, reliable shipper if you wish. Buyer will be given a Bill of Sale and the New Jersey Title I received when I bought the car.
