1967 Porsche 911 911S Additional Info:
Gorgeous 1967 Porsche 911S coupe. Finished in sparkling Silver Metallic with black interior with correct houndstooth accents. Bare metal restoration took place from 2010 through 2012 and every single part of the car was touched. (please see 145 photos at Flickr.com, "bossboy302").
According to the Kardex the car was sold new in October, 1966 to a Dr. Kalbhen, Wiesbaden. In December, of 1967 the car was prepared for transport to Alaska by its owner, including the addition of special protective 'skid-plates' to protect the heat exchangers. (some of the pieces were still on the car in 2005). It is unclear how long the car was in Alaska, but it's history resumes in the late '70''s when the car was in coastal Northern California. The owner, wanting more power, removed the original 2.0 S motor and installed a 2.4 E motor. He does not remember what became of the original engine, but we're still trying. Rare storms in 1983 caused some damage to the car, and it was taken to a repair shop where the owner decided to sell the car to the shop owner. He drove the car for several years until selling it to some acquaintances in Canada who harvested the 2.4 for another car. Then the car was partially dismantled but never restored and sat in the corner of the garage for 6 years. The seller purchased the car in 2005 in that condition.
Beginning in 2010, disassembly was completed, the body then taken to noted Porsche specialist Freddie Hernandez' Vintage Sportswear Restorations and treated to full refurbishment, preparation, and respray in the correct code 6206 Silver Metallic. The outer rocker panels, front & rear latch panels, right door latch panel, and rear center bumper were replaced with new Porsche metal. The front part of the front suspension pan and fuel tank braces were also replaced. The rest of the sheetmetal is original to the car, including floors, doors, fenders, quarter panels, torsion tube, front hood. A perfect and correct rear decklid was sourced from EASY. Every piece of chrome, right down to the ashtray was refinished, and every rubber seal and piece of weatherstripping is new. Many parts available from Erik Linden's AFS have been purchased for this car including horn grilles, headlight rings, and correct silver wiper arms and blades.
While the bodywork was being performed, a correct, intact 1967 911S engine (960029) was sourced. (only 216 digits earlier than the original motor). Intact from flywheel to correct Webers, it's condition was unknown and was treated to a complete rebuild. 18 correct pistons/cylinders yielded 6 matched that were well within spec. The original heads were fully reconditioned with new guides and hardened valve seats. The oiling system was upgraded, and all new cam chains, tensioners (930), and guides were installed. New Sachs clutch. New heat exchangers and muffler. New Brad Davis oil lines throughout.
The interior was in excellent condition for its age. The seat cushions were completely redone by Autobahn Interiors in the correct black vinyl with red/black/white houndstooth inserts sourced from AFS. The hinges and hardware was re-chromed or replaced as needed. Tony also fashioned new door panels and provided the correct plush carpet set and trunk liner.. The rest of the interior, including the entire dash top, is original. The new, correctly-colored headliner was installed by Stuart Tift. The guages were rebuilt to concourse spec. by Palo Alto Speedo. The original leather steering wheel was re-wrapped and the original 3-point seat bests were re-chromed and restored.
The entire suspension and brakes were extensively overhauled. Eric Shea rebuilt the calipers and supplied a complete set of new brake lines and hoses. New Textar pads clamp onto new oem rotors. Elephant oem-style bushings were used throughout. Every suspension component was powder coated, painted, or plated as needed. Every bearing, bushing, and seal is new and was installed with correctly re-finished original fasteners. The set of 5 Fuchs alloys (5 1/2) were refinished by Harvey Weidman to '67S appearance.
While not shown on the Kardex (which is more of a warranty service record than it is a "build sheet"), the car has correct headrests, 3-point front belts, and correct Frankfurt radio, all of which are believed to be original to the car.. There are many, many more details to this car's build that are too numerous for this listing. Also, there are 145 photos at flickr.com. (search 'persons' for "bossboy302")
The finished car has been featured in both the early 911S registry publication Esses as well as Excellence Magazine. Documentation includes Kardex and Certificate of Authenticity. The car is available for your inspection in a private garage with a lift.
This is an honest, outstanding example of Porsche's first high performance version of the 911.
