1973 Formula 400

1973 Pontiac Firebird Additional Info:

Wanna stick your toe into the classic muscle car pond but dont wanna take out a 2nd mortgage on your house? Consider this all original 1973 Firebird Formula 400 in Navajo orange!
This highly desirable machine came out of an estate sale that was necessary due to the owner having passed with multiple Pontiac projects in various states of disassembly. The car was apparently parked in the 80's from a leaking freeze plug that was in back of block covered by the transmission. I pulled the trans, replaced both freeze plugs, cleaned, flushed and resealed trans and reinstalled it and now it runs like a scalded cat! I have no records on engine but it doesnt feel or sound like a stock 400. The idle is too lopey to be the stock cam so Im pretty sure the engine has been gone thru at some point. Oil pressure is good and I cant make the car overheat. The gauges were changed so the mileage on car is unknown.
The original YS block, (with orig heads, carb and distributor), orig turbo 400 trans and orig 3:08 posi rear end with front and rear sway bars are still in the car. The orig carb has been completely rebuilt and restored. Leaves 2 long black marks with ease! The rear glass was pulled, channel cleaned out, primed and painted and glass reset. Body is very solid with no rust anywhere! Has later model 15x8 Trans Am snowflake wheels, fully functional ram air hood with ram air, air cleaner. All brakes and fuel system are new. Mechanically the car is fully sorted out and reliable. The inner and outer fenders and radiator core support have been blasted, primed and inners fenders and core support have been repainted. This car is ready for stripping, blocking and painting. Will also need the obvious interior work but you can drive right now as is if you so desire.
The Formula 400 was the lower cost alternative to the Trans Am but had all the same drivetrain and suspension so was just as much fun to drive. It actually outsold the TA by 2 to 1 in 1973. Complete Gen 2 Formulas still with all the orig drivetrain like this dont come along too often and at this price its a bargain too good to pass up!
