1983 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ with T-Tops this was the last year the LJ was produced. They were only made from 1978 – 1983. The basic trim level for the Grand Prix was called “Model J”; the “SJ” trim designated was for “Sports J”, and the “LJ” trim was the “Luxury J”. Some people say that the “Model J” name was meant to remind people of the supercharged Duesenberg Motors “Model J” cars of the 1930s.
I have owned this car since 2006. It shows on the odometer 98,620 miles, but keep in mind that its not the original engine. I don't know how many miles the engine had or has. Little by little I have restored it to its original condition. When I restore my vehicles I like to restore them as close to original as possible, and take my time to make sure it turns out good. I checked the history on the vehicle with Autocheck and it shows this vehicle has never had an accident. As you can see in the pictures I have the original pamphlets that came with the car; the original owner’s manual, maintenance schedule pamphlet, car warranty information pamphlet, and Station guide pamphlet. I can provide more pictures if needed, Ebay only let me upload a few.
It has a 350 engine and a 350 transmission. The transmission has a leak so it will have to be fixed by whoever purchases it. It runs and drives good. I just started driving it this summer 2019 because it has been sitting for the last few years. It drives like it may need the carburetor to be rebuilt or cleaned up. Like I said it runs and drives well. The only gauges that work are the gas & battery, all the other gauges don't work. Because it’s not the original engine for it, my plan was to put a LS3 engine, but because I have too many projects, not enough space or time. I have to let her go.
The car was painted 6 years ago to its original color that is white. I did use the original paint code. The vehicle was painted in a house garage; this is not a show quality paint job. It is a nice daily driver paint job. I personally restored the wheels to the way I wanted them to look. I want them to look like they are chrome because nobody has restored them the way I have. I had to use 10 different sand paper grits and polish them so they could look chrome. It took me a long time but I got it done. It has all new NOS emblems on the fenders, trunk, and tail lights those emblems were very hard to find as they are rare and hard to come by. It took me a couple of years to get them all but I did.
The car still has ALL the original window glass. I am not sure if you are able to see in the pictures but the windshield is the original. It has the lines in the center, I am not sure what they are called; but if you know about cars from the 80’s, you know what I am talking about. It does have a large scratch on it, it’s not cracked and I don’t want to replace it because I like how it has the lines on the windshield. They don’t make the windshields with those lines anymore. New outer door window weather sealed.
The interior of the car is mostly original and the color is like maroon/red. The only new things that I have replaced on the interior are: Carpet, sun visors, re-upholstered the door panels, power window motors for both sides, and the re-upholstered the headliner. Everything else in the interior is in original condition. Like the seats, all the plastic, and trim.
There are a lot of new parts so I am going to list below.
