1969 Pontiac GTO Judge Convertible Recreation Additional Info:
1969 Pontiac LeMans Convertible that would make a Great GTO "The Judge" Recreation selling at "No Reserve" on a quick 3-day auction
This is a prime opportunity to purchase your dream car to work on over the upcoming winter months, so you can be all ready for top down cruising by next summer. I have always been a 442 guy, but the infamous GTO has always been my close second favorite. The 1969 and 1970 models have been showing at live auctions to be the most valuable. Here is a prime opportunity to own the same looking car without emptying out your bank account.
If you simply double click on the main picture of the auction page then all 24 pictures will be able to be viewed in the larger size by clicking the arrows on each side of the larger pictures.
I will explain everything I know about the car since my transaction four years ago in October of 2015. I have never traded any vehicle in my nearly six decades on this earth, but then came this gentleman in the Navy. He intended on restoring this convertible with his Father, because his Dad had one when he was growing up. That never happened, so he wanted to trade for a high end SUV for his wife. I happened to have a fully loaded all leather Mint Cadillac SRX SUV with the full glass sliding moonroof, so that was how I ended up with this rare 1969 Convertible. We lived quite a distance from each other, so we decided to trailer each vehicle and meet up half way to swap vehicle's. My radiator ended up springing a leak on my pick-up truck, so I only made it 10 miles. I left it up to him if he wanted to make the longer drive to meet me where I was stranded. He agreed and when he showed up he went over the SRX on my trailer with a fine tooth comb before making the trade. I said look pal, these SRX's sold for over $40,000 brand new and I'm going through a situation here, so you are more than welcome to drive away. We ended up completing the transaction and my brother was kind enough to bring me some stop leak and antifreeze and prayed all the way back home. That was how I ended up with this rare old 1969 Pontiac Convertible.
I used to own a real Carousel Red 1969 GTO Judge hardtop back in the 1980's, so I was always looking for one for a replacement. I know they only made 108 real Judge convertible's back in 1969, so if you happen to own one you have a car worth well into the multi six figure dollar amount range. This is a chance to make one the color of your choice. Since this car has the factory green bucket seat interior I was going to go with the color scheme of what the 1970 Judge hardtop looks like in the picture section.
This sweet 1969 Pontiac LeMans Convertible already has the GTO Ram-Air hood, and the Endura front nose. The GTO hood is a very nice genuine GM Ram-Air hood, not a fiberglass aftermarket version. I've always felt that the 1969 Endura Nose Hideaway headlight set-up is one of the coolest looking front ends on any of the classic muscle cars. I found the hideaway headlight grille's and headlight covers at a swap meet, but I didn't locate the complete hideaway unit, so the headlight covers were just placed on the car for the sale. The stationary headlights are present behind the hideaway covers. Making the hideaway set-up work properly will be up to the winning bidder. I do believe the whole system can be purchased brand new for around $300-$400 dollars at a wide variety of aftermarket suppliers.
This is the first time this awesome Pontiac has ever been offered to the public on eBay. I am selling this car as needing a complete restoration where every part will need to be restored, replaced, or repaired. This rare diamond in the rough has good bones or I never would have traded my Cadillac SRX for it. I just have way too many 442's to restore right now, so I need the funds to go towards those cars. My dream of owning a Judge look-a-like convertible will be moving on to the lucky highest winning bidder.
The majority of the rare hard to find parts are on this car. I have been saving the 1969 rare wood steering wheel for over 30 years at my Mother's house. It is missing the mounting piece for the PMD center cap, but those are very inexpensive. The cool Judge spoiler was purchased brand new and just placed on the trunk for the pictures. It was never mounted to the trunk lid. The trunk lid was missing the trunk lock, so the trunk lock is brand new as well.
The 350 engine may be the original engine, but I'm sure the new owner will want to drop a Pontiac 400 in its place. The engine was detailed and the only Pontiac decal I had was the 455 decal shown in the pictures, so let it be known that this car does not have a 455. When I made the trade the guy had the ignition rigged up with a push button. I had one of my best buds who knows these cars like the back of his hand come out and replace the ignition, so the ignition is brand new with a brand new key. We then tried to start the engine with the new ignition and it wouldn't fire up. This was two years ago when I had a shop that I only used to work on my personal cars. My buddy ended up rebuilding a used starter I had laying around and the engine fired right up and sounded great.
I gave up that shop shortly thereafter and moved the car to my home. When I decided I wasn't going to ever get around to restoring it and made the decision to sell it last week I threw a hot battery under the hood. I tried cranking it up and it turns over a couple times and the starter lets loose. I tried several times to fire the car back up with no luck. I do believe with a brand new starter this engine will run fine, but I have no time to mess with it. Getting the engine back running will be up to the new owner. I just didn't bother because I know whoever wins this car will most likely want to drop a nice 400 under the hood. My intentions were always to place a nice running 400 under the hood.
The carpet will need to be replaced, but a new set of four black deluxe carpeted floor mats were placed on the floors for this auction. These are the original bucket seats and back seats along with the original console. All of the original factory 5 pairs of seat belts are still in place. The original factory radio was replaced with a JVC AM/FM Cassette Stereo at some point, but the dash was never cut up, and the current aftermarket stereo fits in the original position in the dash perfectly. An original Pontiac AM/FM can fit right in the proper place if the new owner decides to go back to original.
This convertible sits on a full set of Pontiac 15" inch Rally Wheels with a set of four Uniroyal Tiger Paw raised white lettered tires with four PMD center caps, four very good condition beauty trim rings, and chrome lug nuts.
I believe all the panels on this car are original to the body except the genuine GM Ram-Air hood and the Endura front nose. The inner and outer inside wheel wells are in good condition inside the rear quarters. The doors still open and close well and even have the original door edge guards on them. The body was placed in gray primer to protect it from the elements until it was time for the restoration. The rockers look really good under the GTO lower chrome trim, and the floors and frame looks good from everywhere I looked. I saw one spot on the passenger front floor that could use a minor patch before the new carpet would be installed. The trunk floor is in nice original condition and was coated with AC Delco black and aqua spatter spray to make it appear factory correct. There is one minor spot that could use a minimal repair. An original jack and crow bar were nicely detailed and sit on a newer trunk mat. The trunk also carries a full size Pontiac rally wheel with a Tiger Paw raised white lettered spare tire, but I wouldn't plan on driving on that spare tire anywhere. The spare tire is basically shot, but the Pontiac rally wheel has a center cap and beauty trim ring.
I believe this convertible started life as a triple green droptop. The convertible top will need to be replaced, but the back glass portion is still in tact. The top does go up and down through the switch on the dash, but the top portion of the canvass is missing. The convertible top well liner is still in place along with most of the top padding on the sides of the top frame. A fairly nice white California convertible top boot cover is included in the trunk with this sale. The boot can be seen on the car in several pictures. The car will be safely stored until pick-up or transport. I currently have the interior covered with a tarp, and it will remain covered until the car is picked up or shipped. I can help load the car with my old Chevy car carrier as shown in the backround of one of the pictures.
I was told by the previous owner that the mileage is correct at just over 40,000 original miles, but have no way to verify the mileage as authentic. From the condition of this car I would tend to agree that the mileage could be correct. In the majority of states the mileage comes up exempt on the new freshly issued title's on cars that are more than 10 years old.
Why not make your money work for you while you enjoy yourself. I would have to say this is a great car to take your time and restore the right way. Any money spent restoring a convertible like this is money well spent. Remember when the top goes down the price goes up. This is a great car to restore as a father and son project that will create memories to last a lifetime. Included with this sale is a 1969 owners manual and an original warranty pamphlet from 1969. The open, clean, and clear title issued in the state of Wisconsin will be sent to the new owner the same day the funds are clear by U.S. Priority Mail.
The Nada Classic Car Price Guide that anyone can look up on-line has the 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge Convertible with the 400 ram-air engine and rally wheels valued at $297,640 in high condition, which theyconsider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. Nada has the 1969 GTO Convertible valued at $131,460 in high condition. Nada has the LeMans Convertible valued at $55,430, as the listed value for high condition.
Nada has the average condition LeMans Convertible valued at $24,380, which theyconsider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a20-Footer!
Nada has the lowest condition LeMans Convertible valued at $12,247 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration.
The Nada numbers don't lie! This Classic 1969 Pontiac Convertible is a very valuable classic muscle car if it is given the proper restoration. Why not enjoy the same exact looking muscle car for dimes on the dollar. When these cars go to live auction even as recreations and run on a Star Car Saturday at the Mecum Auctions or on a Super Car Saturday at the Barrett-Jackson Auctions they can bring some serious return on your investment.
These super rare convertible's have consistently shown toescalate in value with each quarter. Any amount of money that is spent making this car into the ultimate dream car will certainly be worthwhile. What you see is exactly what you get!
