View full video here -- D8kNwkHLkxE Leading into the third year of sales, the GTO continued to find sales soaring from popularity! Because of this, GM finally gave the... GTO its own model line versus being a performance package option for the Lemans model series. Also in 1966, Pontiac was beginning development on a new 400ci engine for the 1967 model year making this the last of the 389ci V8 examples ever made! Moreover, it would be the last GTO available with a tri-power carburetion option for the horsepower hungry buyers! The stacked T3 headlights, new aggressive grill and unique louvered taillights made these cars as sinister as they are iconic to the muscle car collectors! This gorgeous 1966 Pontiac GTO convertible is finished in factory correct Montero Red with new White top and Black interior! Sold new from Waynesburg Buick/Pontiac located in Waynesburg, OH in early spring 1966, it comes nicely optioned to include original, numbers matching WS-code 389ci Tri-power V8 mated to a correct Muncie M20 wide ratio 4-speed manual transmission, and 3.55 Safe-T-Track rear end! Other features include correct 14x6" Rally I wheels with whitewall tires, quick ratio power steering, factory Heavy Duty aluminum drum brakes with power assist, Ride & Handling Package, center console, inside day/night mirror, and factory Rally gauge cluster with dash tachometer! We recently reacquired this 1966 GTO Convertible from the former collector of nearly 6 years. We sold it to him after purchasing it from longtime Illinois owner of 15 years (1997-2012). During that time in Illinois, it received a complete engine overhaul in the expert care of Jim Spice, owner of Best in Class, LTD based in Waukegan, IL in 1997. This process included cleaned & boiled block, bore & line hone, resurfaced heads, three-angle valve job, new stainless steel valves & guides, forged aluminum 389 pistons, single moly rings, fresh main bearings, new 068 grind cam & lifters, cam bearings, pushrods, rod bearings, gaskets, new oil pump, water pump, & fuel pump. It now has a brand new engine wiring harness & Pertonix electronic ignition. All the original carburetors were re-plated for correctness, fully rebuilt & detailed, then fitted with new air cleaners. The transmission was also rebuilt entirely by DRC Transmission in 1999 and received a new Centerforce clutch assembly, resurfaced flywheel, new U-joints, rebalanced driveshaft by DriveTrain Service & Components, Inc. and a rebuilt rear end with upgraded 3.90 Posi gear set. All new braking system with flex hoses & stainless steel lines; all new front end suspension with new Monroe shocks & coil springs, upper & lower ball joints, sway bar links & control arm bushings, and tie rod ends. The engine compartment is highly detailed from the efforts of Best in Class, Ltd which also included the front end suspension overhaul. The chassis overall remains original in appearance and is very solid! The front and rear bumpers have been re-chromed. The interior received all new upholstery and seat foams, new carpet and padding, new seat belts, door panels, sail panels, and convertible top boot cover! More recently, the exterior was refinished professionally in November/December 2012 with a brand new base coat/clear coat exterior repaint by Advanced Color Tech. The results are nothing short of superb!! That same year, brand new Rally I wheels and Firestone Deluxe Champion tires were also mounted. Today, the odometer reads just (1)25,915 miles that are said to be 100riginal. The engine and transmission rebuilds were completed at 113,310 miles. It will come with the factory original owners manual, extra keys, service receipts, and complete PHS documentation. This is a very unique opportunity for any GTO collector! Finding a true WS-coded tri-power, 4-speed convertible is growing extremely difficult! Add the rare aluminum front drum brake option and code-correct Montero Red exterior makes it nearly impossible!
