1972 Pontiac GTO Additional Info:
GTOs were respected members of the muscle car set from the time they were first introduced and this 1972 Pontiac GTO is as fitting a representative for the model as you're likely to find. It not only still features its original powerplant under its hood, but it's also sporting its original colors both inside and out. You'll find bona fide PHS documentation on board in its glove box to testify as to its authenticity, as well as a collection of build receipts as backup for the work that's gone into bringing it to its current level of awesomeness. This super sharp Pontiac still wears the same Lucerne blue shade it had when it no doubt wowed audiences at showrooms around the country decades ago and, due to a freshening up over the years, is in good form here, showing a nice consistent shine while being free of any glaring blemishes. As a '72, this specimen closed out the second generation of the model, and it did so in fine fashion as far as style was concerned. That distinctive dual scoop on the hood is fully functional - as part of GM's heralded Ram Air system, it feeds cold, dense air to the engine waiting just below. Up front, the body colored Endura bumper was quite a departure from the norm of its time and is in good form here. The brightwork and chrome trim are also well-represented and all have a nice shine and sit securely in place. Take a lap around this Pontiac and you'll see it's also precisely aligned - its doors, hood and trunk all fit nicely with their surrounding panels. Climb inside and you'll be surrounded by a black vinyl interior that's looking particularly well-restored. Both the front buckets and rear bench seat have yet to develop any serious wear as they loom over an expanse of black carpeting that appears to have recently been installed. Center consoles were a coveted feature back in the early '70s and the one here adds a nice finishing detail to the interior while positioning the shifter within easy reach. the factory gauges look clean and clear in the instrument cluster and the original AM radio is still on hand to help give the interior an era-appropriate look, but a modern-era hidden stereo has also been added and features an iPod connection to substantially expand your audio options as it teams with a relatively new amp, subwoofers and speakers. Under the one of a kind hood sits the original numbers-matching 400 cubic inch V8 and it's running strong, being particularly well-fed by the functioning Ram Air scoop and a 4-barrel Quadrajet carb. A nicely badged chrome air cleaner and matching valve covers provide some additional eye candy as the engine sits in a well-detailed compartment, surrounded by fresh hoses and properly routed wiring. The engine fires up quickly and a tap on the accelerator will send a deep, resonant exhaust note through its dual Flowmaster mufflers. It's joined by a 4-speed manual Muncie M20 transmission that's known for its impressively durability. Power steering makes this classic Pontiac easy to navigate, while power brakes that feature discs up front bring its set of 14" stock PMD wheels outfitted with Firehawk Indy 500 tires to prompt, fade resistant stops when called upon. Looking sharp and running strong, this 1972 Pontiac GTO is one seriously appealing classic. Call today!
