1979 Pontiac Trans Am Additional Info:
1979 Pontiac Trans AM - Factory Black with Black Interior. Original 403 with Matching Numbers and Automatic Transmission. Options include Factory Air Conditioning, Power Disc Brakes, Power Windows, Tilt Steering Column, AM/FM Radio, and Proper Original Honeycomb Alloy Wheels with BFGoodrich White Letter Radials. We purchased this car in Phoenix where it's been since new and believe me it shows! It arrived here in Ohio with original paint, original decals, original interior, and overall still showed well. We stripped it to bare metal and saw no hint of rust, rot or even as much as a door ding. Fresh paint and decals were applied and the car looks amazing. Factory seat covers were a bit tired at a couple of the seams so we replaced them and now the interior also shows very well. There are some interesting modifications to this car including Trans-AM Specialties 170MPH Speedometer, B&M Shifter and Shift Plate, Boost Gauge, Remote Engine Oil Cooler with Fan, and Remote Engine Oil Filter. Why the boost gauge? The most interesting bit about this car is that it used to be turbocharged. We too wondered the validity of it until looking more closely under the hood (this turbo was on this car) and in the trunk where a period correct RAJAY turbo had been resting for many years along with original oil lines, brackets and air cleaner. Judging by the Trans AM Specialties speedometer and RAJAY Turbo, the original build appears to have been a marriage of MACHO and Trans AM Specialties parts. A lot of research later, we're still trying to figure out exactly what we have here, all that is certain is this was one mean machine with some very rare vintage speed parts. There is no more famous American Muscle car than the Bandit Trans AM, and there were no more notable tuners of these cars than DKM and TA Specialties. This is a really neat piece of automotive history dating back to a time where frankly not much automotive history was being made. Original build Sheet is included as is the Original Owner's Manual with owner's oil change notes dating into 1990 indicating 13,609 Miles! The odometer currently shows just over 23K and is believed to be correct.
