1989 ASC McLaren Turbo Pontiac Grand PrixOne Owner Classic in Original Unmolested Condition - Complete!
Looking for a classic 80's relic that isn't your run of the mill 307 Oldsmobile or 305 Monte Carlo SS? Look no further! Up for sale is my 89 McLaren Turbo Grand Prix. This exclusive vehicle is 1 of 849 that was produced in 1989! It doesn't get more unique then that. This is not just any front wheel drive family car from the late 80s. This was the product of 3 amazing companies coming together to build something truly different; ASC, McLaren, and the Pontiac division of General Motors came together to build a efficient, turbocharged, front wheel drive performance car that could keep up with cars like Corvette and showcase the newest and greatest technology that the 1990s would have to offer. This is a cool car I spent almost a decade looking for, unfortunately due to a change in circumstance, I do not have the ability to give this vehicle the proper treatment it needs to live up to the full potential it has. Thus I am offering it YOU for sale, at a RIDICULOUSLY LOW opening bid of just $1200 and NO RESERVE!!!
I am going to attempt to describe the condition of this vehicle as accurately as possible and give as much detail as possible, however please keep in mind that this is a 29 year old vehicle that has been off the road since 2003. If you hate reading, I took the time to provide a really boring video that should showcase the car nicely and still give you all the information you need.
As I mentioned prior, this is a ONE OWNER vehicle with a Clear Title, and with LOW MILES... it has just 96,249. It is FULLY LOADED except for the sunroof. My understanding is that fewer cars were produced without the sunroof than with so this makes the car more rare. The car does run, but needs a tune up. When I purchased the vehicle it did not run; it needed a fuel pump which I installed in addition to a brand new fuel tank. I also took the proper precautions to make sure upon starting it, since it sat for so long, that no damage was done to the engine. The oil was changed, the cylinders sat with oil in them for a few weeks prior to start up, the fuel filter was changed, the spark plugs were changed, and a new battery was installed. Other than those things, it has not been tampered with at all. The result is what you see here, a car that runs and still needs a lot of maintenance. I would image it could use spark plug wires, and coil packs as well. The transmission shifts. I have driven it on my property. And the turbo seems to spool, it makes turbo noises (which sound amazing). The braking system needs to be gone through. The front brakes stop with effort. One of the rear brake lines is damaged and the fluid leaked out thus there are no rear brakes. For that reason, this car cannot be driven home, you will need to tow or trailer it. The windshield is broken and needs to be replaced, but it doesn't leak. Actually the car has no leaks at all, whatsoever. The tires have plenty of tread, they Cooper Cobras, but unfortunately they are 20 years old so they are dry rotted and need to be replaced. Other than those immediate things, I don't see anything else personally that would prevent this car from being road worthy. I think if you addressed the brakes and tires, and gave it a tune up you could put it on the road and begin to enjoy it! As for the body exterior, its actually in very good shape. The paint is faded and it does need a repaint but there is NO RUST. This is a very big deal for our area. Not only is the body solid but the door jambs have no rust as well. This is where they generally begin rusting inside the door jambs, but this one is clean and does not have any rust in those places. The front drivers fender is damaged and needs to be replaced or worked on but the rest of the panels are straight; again no damage or rust. The undercarriage is very clean for a 29 year old car, although as you would expect there is some patina... but nothing out of the ordinary. The suspension bushings could use replacement. Moving to the interior: The interior on this vehicle is awesome. The drivers seat is ripped at the bolster and the passenger seat has a small 2 inch tear In the center cushion, but the rest of the interior is in great shape. The rear seats need to be cleaned but are like new; the dash, door panels, and center console are in excellent condition as well. I can't think of an interior I've sat in that is more comfortable. These seats rival a new Mercedes in my opinion... they are ridiculously comfortable. The gauges and switches all seem to work, as well as all the multi adjustable seat adjustments. The radio works including the power antenna... though it sounds like a stereo from the 1980s even if its a "premium stereo."
This is a great car... a great relic from the 80s. When I sit in it, it makes me feel very nostalgic! For an opening bid of just $1200... I think you will be hard pressed to find something as cool!
Good Luck Bidding!
