1974 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400
Original Numbers Matching 400/4 barrel/dual exhaust
Excellent Condition
These are some of my favorite cars from this era. I especially like the remodeled for 1974 front and rear but carries over the ram hood scoops. This example is nice in the pictures, but in person is even better. What makes this example so nice so much of the sheet metal on this is untouched. This is a rust free example, purchased out of California last year, and the underside is a clean, though not refreshed, rust free example. Under the hood, you will find the Pontiac 400 with the 4 barrel carb. Originally a dual exhaust and this one is as well. This combination is rare, and the engine is the one it was born with in 1974.
There is nothing major to fault on this Firebird, it is in excellent condition overall. Interior is clean and in great condition. All gauges work, but clock is not working. Don’t ask me if the stereo works, as that was not important to me, as the exhaust tone is just magical IMO, but it is upgraded and newer rear speakers. The air even works on this car.
I would call this a top quality driver and local show car. Something you would enjoy driving to the dairy bar on a Friday night, or running up the road on Sunday morning at a good clip. The added 17in Honeycomb wheels and new tires set this off yet give you plenty of holding for the canyon roads.
The EXTERIOR of the car is in very good condition. There is no rust, dents, dings, major scratches, and virtually blemish free for the age. Most of the body panels appear to be original to the car. It has been repainted at some time in its life, which is in good shape overall. Doors hang well and close as they should, but you have to close with effort. There does not appear to be body filler on this car, all the panels feel all steel. Stainless is good, but to be even better after an afternoon of polish. There is a scuff on the driver side front bumper under the black bumper strip and a small crack starting to develop on the nose that is under 1/2in at this point. Nothing else to fault on the exterior of the car.
Underneath the car is clean and rust free, but not in restored condition. Meaning, it is in great original condition. Pans appear to be original, as well as trunk, frame rails, rear trunk sill plate. All are excellent. I have pictures of the underside, but it’s better in person. In addition, new front brakes and ball joints up front. Rear has air shocks, so you can adjust ride height up or down to your taste level.
The INTERIOR of the car is in GOOD condition. Seats are free of tears and are plush. Headliner has been replaced but looks very good. Gauges work, but clock does not work. Only real nit pic on the interior is the seatbelts are original and faded. I did not get around to replacing those, so new owner can decide which route they would want to go with it. There is nothing to fault with the interior.
The mechanicals are in VERY GOOD condition. It starts right up, drives straight, is comfortable. Will drip a drop of oil after use, but I haven’t owned an old car that didn’t do this, so I would call it a non-issue. Does not smoke at start up or while driving. Power steering works, A/C works, etc. It fires right up every time, tracks straight down the road, stops like it should. I would call it ready to go. I have not had any issues with it when driving it.
Overall, this 1974 Formula would make a nice addition to any garage. Title is in hand and ready for the new owner. It should go without saying, but even though there is nothing wrong with the car, it is sold as-is where-is with any and all faults known or unknown. $100 deposit within 48hrs, balance in cash in person, cashiers check (must give 7 business days to clear), bank to bank wire transfer.
