This Listing is for the 1978 Gold Special Edition Y88 Trans am you see pictured. This is a very rare Y88 Special Edition with WS6 performance packageTrans AM with a ton of options. I have the original Build sheet and PHS documents that go with the car. I also have a reproduction window sticker based on the PHS documents that show this car had so many options it required 2 window stickers. The base price was $5799.00 and options totaled $3173.00 for a total price of $9170. The options alone were more than half the base price. The car was purchased in the south and has remained in the south its entire life. It has a few rust spots in the floor pans ( as most do with T-tops)and a few in the trunk as can be seen in the pictures. The under carriage and frame rails are very solid. This car doesNOT have Northern rust. The previous owner stated to me he repaired the lower rear quarter panels that had rust but to what extent I do not know. ( they look solid to me). The paint is all original but has had spray can touch ups in the past. You can still see most of all the factory striping. This was a customer order car from a bank in Tennessee and sold by Barber Motor Co in TN. It still has is Barber MotorCo emblem on the rear of the car. The front spoiler and all wheel spoilers are still in good condition. The car still has its one year only 8 inch gold wheels. The gold T-tops are still in very good condition with no cracks and very few scratches. This car had a ton of options including Y88 special edition and the WS6 performance package. The build sheet, PHS documents and reproduction window sticker list all the options and can be seen in the pictures.
If you are going to restore a Trans am you might as well restore one that is going to have value on the higher end when done. Its going to cost just as much to restore a ordinary trans am as it would to restore this one.
The car runs and drives but is not road worthy. The tires are nothing more than good rollers and are not safe on the road. The engine is a NON Numbers matching 400 from 1976 that cranks, runs good, doesn't smoke, and doesn't make any unusual noises. It has a aftermarket intake and Holly Carb therefore the Hood scoop sits a little high. The transmission shifts well in all 3 gears. The brakes work good. The interior has new carpet. The seats are solid and have been re-dyedbut need to be recovered. The headliner is missing. Most of the plastic in the interior needs to be replaced as its deteriorated and crusty as they normally all get. Dash is cracked as can be seen in the pictures. Power windows and door locks are not working. Window motors are getting power so I assume you could remove them, take them apart, clean and re-grease them and they would work fine. ( I have done this many times to these cars and it always works). Most of the gauges are not working. The amp gauge, water temp gauge and fuel gauge do work.Original am/fm 8 track player is not working. I have not tried to get any of this working so it could be fuses or whatever. If it had better tires you could use the car as-is and work on it as you get time and money or restore the car to new. Whichever the car does deserve a better home and value would be at the higher end with all the options when restored. Solid restorable 1978 Y88 WS6 Special EditionTrans Am's are getting really hard to find and going up in value so this is the chance for someone to get one.
I invite any potential buyers to come see the car or have a representative come see the car at any time. The car is being sold as-is with no type of warranty as is common when selling old cars. I require a non-refundable deposit of $500.00 within 48 hours of auction end time via Paypal with the remaining balance due in 7 days via cash at time of pickup orBank Wire Transfer if buyer is having it shipped. I can assist the buyer with loading the car but the shipping arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer. All bidders with less than 10 positive feedback need to contact me via phone or the bid will be deleted. ( this is due to the many non-paying bidders on ebay). My name is Mike and I can be reached at 662-816-8280 with any questions.
NO RESERVE!!! Car will sell.
