Vehicle Background:In December 1966, D.B. Sallinger, a Airline Pilot for TWA based out of PA traded in his 66 tripower GTO Convertible forthis 67 H.O. convertible. He special ordered it with some "go-fast options",such as the 360HP HO engine, power disc brakes, Rally Cluster and a console...a power top for good measure.
Old D.B parked the car in the summer of 1970 when his 70 455 HO GTO came in, he had to keep up with the Jones' as local lore says...and kept his beloved 67 parked in heated and covered storage, tinkering with it occasionally, but only driving it on the nicest days. The car has accumulated some 40K miles on it in 1986.
He gave the car to his son, Peter Sallinger in the fall of 86 as a high school graduation present, but Petewasn'tfond of a stick shift. (The 86 High School Sticker still resides inthe window).
The car sat back in Pete's garage relatively unused until D.B.'s death in 2015. At that point, the car was completely gone through, belts, hoses, fluids, brakes, carb rebuilt, ect.
The car was offered for sale by the original family, inimpeccably well kept condition. This car has never been abused in any way! The interior looks brand new, albeit it is 50 years old. The paint, while showing typical blemishes, shows well! The paint is all original! Everything works and she runs like a top!
The Rally I's and new (2018 DOT Date BFG Red Lines) are not original to the car, this car came with poverty caps, which are included. But who does not love Rally I wheels.
The car has 100% all original sheet metal, no repairs, patches, ect. Its DRY! It's original... We spray WD-40 on all door seam to shell mating surfaces, ect. every year to prevent any corrosion.
This car is a all original sheet metal car, yes...the stampings are on the tops of the 1/4 panels...spot welds evident at bottom of 1/4 panels, inner to outer rocker pinch weld...absolutely no swelling of pinch welds. Literally...a rust free original car!
I know GTO's very very well and have been collecting them for many years. This is one of myCrown Jewels. I had 3 67 400HO 4 Speed Convertibles. One now belongs to ZZ Top, one belongs to one of theguys from Power Block TV, andthis one can beyours.
This car has never been restored, is fully PHS documented, is 97% as delivered! Is and has always been rust and rot free, has no reproduction parts on it...its just a very nice original car.
Pinchwelds are perfect, ALL original sheetmetal...perfect trunk, perfect floors. This car is absolutely what you've been looking for. Car includes PHS P.O.P buyers order, window sticker, original briggs keys...
Haggerty Price Guide values a 67 400 HO 4 Speed Convertible at $82,000 in #3 Condition $140,000 in excellent condition and $185,000 in #1 Condition
I know Hagerty Price Guides are very optimistic! And sometimes they live in dream land...but this car is also THE NICEST ORIGINAL UNRESTORED 67 400 HO 4 SPEED IN EXISTENCE!
Am I interested in any trades? Not at this time.
You can call me at (630) 273-7595 and leave a message. I can assist with shipping as much as Ican.
I think my description is very detailed...and borderline overkill, but it is important to me that the buyer has ALL available information at hand to make a bid based on all available information!
Inspections are welcomed andencouraged. Thisparticular "goat" is very well known in the Pontiac community as a very nicely pedigreed car. Car won "best survivor" at the 2003 GTO Nationals in Ohio, scoring in the high 970+ point range...cog belts, a few hose clamps and the "dealer installed" drivers door speaker installed in May of 1967 because the ownercouldn't hear the rear deck speaker...go figure. This vehiclesreputation precedes it. It needs nointroduction...has never been offered for sale at any price...but this one of a kind "legend" could be yours today.
If you are looking for a "budget" GTO...this is not it. This is a highly original car that has beenpainstakingly maintained and also kept "road ready".
I personally drove it on a 500 mile trip last week...because...why not? It's only money.
