As to myself, I am a (68) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback that is at 100% with (1,190) transactions. Many of my transactions have been muscle cars, which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Australia and the Netherlands. My reputation for honesty is well known amongst muscle car lovers.
Just some quick history on the Pontiac Firebird Trans AM
The first generation Firebird had characteristicCoke bottle stylingshared with its cousin, theChevrolet Camaro. Unlike the Camaro, the Firebird's bumpers were integrated into the design of the front end. The Firebird's rear "slit" taillights were inspired by the 1966–1967Pontiac GTO. Both a two-doorhardtopand aconvertiblewere offered through the 1969 model year. Originally, the car was a "consolation prize" for Pontiac, which had desired to produce a two-seat sports car based on its originalBansheeconcept car. However, GM feared this would cut into ChevroletCorvettesales, and gave Pontiac a piece of the "pony car" market through sharing theF-bodyplatform withChevrolet.
The second generation debut for the 1970 model year was delayed until February 26, 1970, because of tooling and engineering problems; thus, its popular designation as a 1970½ model, while leftover 1969s were listed in early Pontiac literature without a model-year identification.[9]This generation of Firebirds were available in coupe form only; convertibles disappeared until 1991 after the 1969 model year.
The Trans AM was a specialty package for the Firebird, typically upgradinghandling,suspension, andhorsepower, as well as minor appearance modifications such as exclusivehoods,spoilers, fog lights and wheels. Four distinct generations were produced between 1969 and 2002. These cars were built on theF-body platform, which was also shared by theChevrolet Camaro.
Despite its name, the Trans AM was not initially used in the Trans AM Series, as its smallest engine exceeded the SCCA's five liter displacement limit.
The second generation was available from 1970 to 1981 and was featured in the 1977 movieSmokey and the Bandit, the 1978 movieHooper, the 1979 movieRocky II, and the 1980 movieSmokey and the Bandit II. The Firebird Trans Am was also selected as the Official Pace Car for the1980 Indianapolis 500.
1976 would be the last year of the 455 engine, and the first year of available T-Tops. All Firebirds received new more angular bumpers which improved their appearance, and Pontiac introduced the very popular Black-and-Gold Special Edition Trans Am which quickly became one of the most famous Trans Am's of all time. This would be the first year that over 100,000 Firebirds were sold.

And now for my wicked nice 1976Pontiac Firebird Trans AM that I am selling here today on eBay. Let’s face it, there are only a small number of these original 1976Pontiac Firebird Trans Am cars known to exist and how many of those have their original drive train? Try to find another 1976PHS documented Pontiac Firebird Trans AM with original body panels, original drivetrain and original interior with basically everything in working order. If they are out there, they’re not selling for my price.
This particular Trans AM starts, runs and drives down the road excellent. I have always believed that classic cars should be transported long distances via carrier but I would not be afraid to drive this Pontiac anywhere.
One more consideration is value. According to the Hagerty Valuation Tool, the 1976 Trans AM, in excellent condition, has increased from around $29,000 in September of 2015 to $39,100 in May of 2018. That is an increase in value of 13.5% in less than three years. As an FYI, Hagerty values the 1976 Trans AM at $20,800 in just good condition.
Here is what I know about this ’76 Trans AM. The previous (3rd) owner told me that his sister purchased it in Fort Kent Maine from the original owner in 1978. She drove it cautiously and never in the winter or bad weather. She always kept it stored. When she passed away in the late 90’s, the car came to the brother (the person that I purchased the car from.) He told me that he only drove it once in a while and basically it has been stored in his garage for the last 20 years that he has owned it. That is what I know about this Trans Am.
I do however know from previous experience that there is never too much information for the serious collectors. So, for all of you numbers people, this is for you.

Exterior: The “code 11” Cameo White exterior paint looks excellent having been repainted once at some point. I just don’t know when. The ’76 Trans AM also appears to have all original and solid body panels. All windows are in very good condition. Tires and original rims are excellent.
Let’s discuss the sun roof which was not an option on the 1976 Trans AM. The previous owner told me that when his sister purchased the car in the late ‘70s, she decided she wanted a sun roof so she had one professionally installed. She never had any issues with the sun roof including water leaking. When the sister pass away, the brother acquired the Trans Am and quickly decided that he wanted tinted glass in the sun roof. He then had the old sun roof removed and replaced with a new tinted glass sun roof. Completed by a professional company of course and the previous owner states that he has never had any issues including water leaking since he has owned it. To be sure, I left the Trans Am out in an all-day downpour and checked it the next day to happily see no water leaking at all. That is what I know about the sun roof.
All exterior items work such as:
· Head lights (high and low);
· Tail lights;
· Backup lights;
· Plate light;
· Running Lights;
· Blinkers (front and rear);
· Wipers;
· Horn.
Interior: Appears to be all original with the exception of the rug which looks new. No major rips or tears in the seats, door panels, dash or headliner. All gauges are functional such as:
· Radio/Speakers;
· Heater;
· Fuel Gauge;
· Water Temperature Gauge;
· Oil Pressure Gauge;
· Voltage Gauge;
· Tachometer;
· Speedometer;
· Tripometer;
· Overhead Light;
· Dash Lights;
· Clock.
The cigarette lighter is not functional.
Engine: What can I say about the engine accept it starts and runs great and is pretty much all original. There looks to be a new battery.
Trunk; Super clean with the original spare and jack assembly that I do not believe has ever been out of the trunk. Original “jack instruction” sticker is in with my paperwork.
Undercarriage; Rust and rot free with the exception of one small area under the driver’s side rear seat where the inspection oval plate is (See Photo). The exhaust appears fine with what appears to be new tail pipes. Original brake and gas lines are present.

FYI: I do not have a Maine title for this 1976 Pontiac Trans AM as Maine does not issue titles for vehicles that are more than (15) years old. I have sold cars all over the country as well as Canada, England, Switzerland, Germany and Australia and have never had a problem. The car will come with a Bill-of-Sale, the Maine Registration signed over to the new owner and a copy of the Maine law regarding titles which is on a form issued by the Maine Motor Vehicle Department
