1970 Pontiac Firebird Additional Info:
Up for your consideration is a 1970 Pontiac Firebird, this car is a "street machine" survivor built in the late 70's early 80's. The Firebird has a '71 Pontiac 350 w/ a Muncie 4-speed, manual front disc brakes & rear drum along w/ pwr steering & a 10 bolt rear. Odometer reads 69,XXX miles can't say 100% it's actual but considering the car's condition it's not likely 169,XXX either.I had no intentions of selling this car, but here we are. I am not the original builder, I do have a folder full of early 80's dated receipts with builder/owners name covering engine specs, parts purchased from Pontiac dealer & more. Plus, Chilton & Pontiac 1970 service manuals included. The "street machine" look is one you'll either love or hate. It does have custom fiberglass rear fender flares, a glass molded in rear spoiler, front chin spoiler & a steel hood w/ an L88 scoop bonded on. None of the custom work is lifting or bubbling, fiberglass has held up very well over last several decades. It has been garage kept being driven under 5000 miles in that time. Those Firestone tires are not repo's they are original bias ply super sports !!
Engine*1971 pontiac 350 #481990, rebuilt .30 overCrane Cam # 283801 "Blazer" grind 288-2H (hydraulic) .450 intake/ .495 exhaust*Heads #94 1971 350 w/ 1.94 / 1.66 valves & 96cc chambersbronze guides, competition valve job w/ intake & exhaust manifolds port matched.* Holley aluminum 4 brl intake w/ rebuilt Edelbrock manual choke carb. Also, has carb insulator spacer to prevent heat soak.* Mallory ignition &distributor w/ accel super stock wires new NGK plugs installed.* Chrome moroso valve covers & oil pan. Oil & filter were just changed ( less than 100 miles ago)* custom built 4 core radiator w/ metal fabbed radiator shroud, very nicely done. 180 degree thermostat
Trans*Muncie 4 speed, The trans does NOT have a date code or VIN #Housing # 3926660 = '68-'70 1" boreTailshaft # 3857584 = '66-'70 27 spline, pass. side speedo.Sidecover # 3884685 = "584" early stud w/ lever shift shafts* trans is clean inside & out, no issues in shifting, new GM clutch & hurst shifter mechanism. Speedometer works & has clutch shield. Driveshaft balance checked & new universals installed & painted.
SuspensionNew/replaced rear leaf springs, U-bolts, shocks & after market rear sway bar kit. 10 bolt rear w/ posi ( ratio unknown, but suspect low 3.XX ratio) rear drum brakes clean & rebuilt at one time. New aftermarket stainless steel E-brake kit included, not installed. Front springs replaced, factory sway bar, but larger diameter aftermarket one included, not installed. Some of front end components have been replaced but not completely rebuilt. Front Disc calipers are new, brakes work fine.BodyThe car is in black primer.Body mounts are solid original rubber is cracked. Front sub-frame is solid. Floor pans & frame rails all look fine, at one point some of undercoating was removed to clean & paint underside but never completed. Hood was new steel Pontiac along w/ front fenders. L88 scoop installed & scoop is fully functional. It does have hood pins w/ original latch. Doors are original & appear to be solid & are NOT sagging w/ worn out hinges !! 1/4 panels are original & have been cut/modified for flares. Flares & body mods were very well done. Flares could use some final blocking to define lines better before painting. So, yes, of course they have fiberglass and/or filler in them. Trunk lid is solid, trunk lip is solid & trunk floor is solid having very minor rust stain discoloration only.Gas tank was replaced/painted & fuel gauge works.Has a pwr antenna installed on pass. rear 1/4 panel but not currently hooked up. Very solid around windows & all trim is intact.Chrome & bright work is not perfect but very good well above average. Glass all good, no fogging. Rear window has a couple of "slipped" sanding scratches. All lights work; head (hi-low), front parking, rear ( turn, brake & parking) & side markers. Back-up lights need hooked up. Have original Pontiac keys along w spares all door locks & trunk lock function fine & windows roll up & down o.k. Exhaust is a factory/dealer replacement complete w/ compression bends & single transverse muffler, but nonetheless a true dual system exiting in original location. It's not really quite & has a nice sound considering. Exhaust is in good shape, no leaks.
Wheels / TiresOriginal keystone Classics w/ chrome in very nice shape 15" on rear 14" out frontRear tires are vintage bias ply N50-15 firestone super sports (28" H x 13 1/2" W)Front are matching in G70-14. Yes,they are ol, have some weather cracking & in typical bias ply fashion are not great in handling compared to a radial. They do however have at least 3/4 tread & look cool !! Your choice to ride on them or not, car does tend to pull to the left.
InteriorAppears to be all original for most part aside from carpeting being replaced, I assume. But again seats (front & rear) are in nice condition not ripped or torn up, door panels good no issues, Head liner original & nice ( no mouse holes!!) steering wheel original good shape. Dash pad is not perfect has a few hairline cracks. Original radio missing. Heater controls intact & work fine, heater & defrosters work, heater core good & blower motor works on all speeds !! Fresh air vents work too !! Intrument panel light work but are not super bright. Factory fuel gauge & speedo work as mentioned. Aftermarket oil, temp & volt gauges all work. Sun pro tach w/ shift light is a recent add on that works fine of course but I don't like on the car now. Should be replaced w/ period correct version. Wipers are not currently working & it needs a horn. Drivers side remote mirror control needs re-installed on door panel, it's inside the door.
OriginalityThis was not an original 350/4 spd firebird !!*VIN# 223870N6XXXXX decodes as;2=pontia, 23=firebir, 87=2dr hdt, 0=197, 6= 6 cyl*Body Tag indicates original color PNT code 1414 = Palladium Silver Met. which is visible under door weather stripping & jamb and in a few other areas.Interior color TR code 208= black, black vinyl. Both VIN & body tag intact & easily readable on car. I believe there were approx. 19,000 '70 1/2 firebirds produced.OverallThis is a runnin, driving, PA inspected till 12/17 vehicle. I have sadly driven it only 4 times since I've owned it less than 100 miles total. It just sits in the garage collecting dust as pics show. It runs fine, no death knocks or rattles. Carries 30-35 psi oil pressure after warm up w/ 10w-30 oil & runs at 180-185 degrees. The Muncie trans is in fine working order, Shifter mech. is still tight & needs broke in. It is not a "race car" by any means, has maybe 300 HP give or take. It is not perfect, but far from junk. It is a great flash back to the 70's & 80's car scene !! It does need a few things done as mentioned above & will need continued work or maintenance. I only wish I could keep it & continue the car's build !! A 455, tunnel ram, velocity stacks & side pipes w/ era correct paneled lace paint & lettering (oh yea, gotta have the red, white & blue tach too.) Just my opinion though.
Thanks for looking there's always more info. & pics available along w/ questions to answer. So, feel free to ask but READ the description first please !! I'm not a pay pal supporter So payment by cash in hand on pick up day or if need be a previously sent certified check given plenty of time to clear before the trailer shows up. I will not release car till payment is 100% cleared, No exceptions !! Title is clean, clear in my name & my possession. I have no issues storing the car for up to 30 days till arrangements can be made, but would at least like payment to be sent in that situation w/ in 10 days of selling date. I have 100% positive feedback mostly all as a seller & on ebay motors.
