1970 Pontiac Firebird Additional Info:

Up for sale is my 1970 Pontiac Firebird Formula, (VIN: 226870L104854), 455 cu. in. engine, 4-speed transmission, 71,210 original miles, with options: Goldenrod yellow (51) exterior color, black deluxe vinyl bucket seat w/console interior (208), power steering, power brakes, A/C, with added tilt steering column and rear trunk lid spoiler. Started out in Long Beach, CA and remained a California car most of its life, 50 years, until the last few years.

Originally a Formula 400, 4-speed car where the original 400 engine was replaced years ago with a 1970 Pontiac 455 HO “YC” engine said to have come from a 1970 GTO Judge (casting # 9799140, # 64 heads – see pictures) (the original engine is not available). Original to the car are the Muncie 4-speed and 12-bolt rear end. PHS documented paperwork included with this sale.

Car was mostly disassembled to restore a few years ago. The body from the cowl back was stripped and blasted to bare metal and epoxy primed. Car was originally yellow and then painted red at some point. Stripping revealed clean sheet metal, crisp body lines, and no rust to speak of, that you would expect from a California car. No body work or patches were found except for filler in the rear tail light panel (a new one comes with the car). Floors and underside are super clean.

The car was complete when disassembled, most of the original parts including trim are included with this sale along with many new parts. Some wear item or non-functioning parts when removed were disposed of and would need to be purchased and replaced when assembling the car…weather-stripping, package tray, carpeting, headliner, radio, trunk mat, windshield (original one was cracked), etc., to name a few. Some of the new parts that come with the car include: Legendary door panels (upper and lower), armrest pads, console compartment lid, lower front-end outer valance, steel rear tail light panel, outer plastic rear tail light panel, engine wiring harness, PMD wheel center caps, misc other small parts, refurbished dash gauge clusters. Some of those parts can be seen in pictures.

Original front bucket seats were replaced years ago with another set of 1970 only seats with headrests that would need to be recovered to match (see pictures). Back seats are original and material is in nice shape. Original steering wheel was replaced with one from a Trans Am (see pictures).

Front urethane bumper is original and in great condition and needing very little reconditioning. Rear bumper is also in good condition.

The car ran great before it was disassembled including the engine and transmission. The engine was refreshed to a degree with heads reworked, new gaskets, coil, plugs, water pump, fuel pump, and misc other parts, original hooker headers were jet-hot coated (see pictures). Pulleys, brackets, A/C compressor, and belts need to be installed. Engine is just sitting in the engine compartment and not hooked up, nor has it been started since removal from car and refreshed, transmission and driveshaft are out of the car.

Front sub-frame was removed, stripped and painted along with the control arms, etc. New: coil springs and shocks, bbc brake components, calipers, rotors, backing plates, polyurethane bushings, ball joints, sway bar links, brake hoses, tie rod ends, pitman arm, lower steering shaft/coupler, etc. (see pictures). Rear drum brakes and rear-end, rear suspension, exhaust, and gas tank have not been removed from car.

Original fiberglass Formula hood and front fenders are in nice condition. Radiator, A/C condenser are original and appear good. The radiator support is clean, dash pad is damaged and cracked, mostly on top as they do, and would need repaired or replaced.
