If you're a Trans Am enthusiast, the 1989 Turbo Trans Am pace car really is the one to own. It's still the fastest-accelerating T/A ever built, and this one, with under 2k miles on a full restoration, is one of the cleanest, most documented examples available anywhere. Cool, fast, and rare? Where do I sign up?This might be the most subtle GM pace car ever built, but the off-white Trans Am rocks the horsepower, and that's really all that matters. Heck, they probably tried to downplay that they stuffed the Buick Grand National's turbocharged powerplant into a car that could actually handle and brake properly, so white was the logical choice. The third-generation F-bodies were pretty good looking cars, particularly the Trans Am, and all the unique styling aspects are extremely well-preserved. The original paint has been restored to a bright shine with a wet sand and buff. The bumpers, which tended to crack, were repainted and the spoiler and front air dam were replaced with correct pieces from the factory. Even the headlight mechanisms were replaced to ensure they work perfectly! Thanks to the careful restoration, you can go out and demonstrate its abilities without worries. There aren't many nicer than this anywhere.A tan leather interior was actually an optional upgrade on these cars, which came with tan cloth as standard equipment. Nearly everything you see has been restored to as new condition. This includes new factory leather on all seats, door panels, steering wheel, shifter, E-brake handle and custom dash pad, new carpets with sound deadener everywhere and new headliner with top shades. The aforementioned leather interior and T-tops were the only options, so things like power windows and locks, A/C, cruise control, and a powerful AM/FM/cassette stereo were all standard. In typical Pontiac fashion, there are seemingly thousands of buttons on the dash and steering wheel, but you'll get a feel for them quickly enough and it all works properly; even the A/C is nice and cold. A small boost gauge was integrated into the Trans Am's standard instrument panel, but everything else should be familiar to fans of the marque. The trunk is like new and outfitted with original bags for the T-tops, because this car has every available option. The real reason these cars are special is under the hood: Buick's stunning 3.8 liter turbocharged V6. Pontiac rated it at 250 horsepower to keep from stepping on Corvette's toes, but the GM factory dyno rang up 300+ horsepower on a pretty consistent basis. The matching numbers engine was professionally rebuilt and slightly modified (specs available) including a custom camshaft, a slightly larger turbo with matching torque converter, injectors and chip. It has been balanced and matched to run very smooth and strong. The 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission was rebuilt at the same time with a slight shift kit to match the engine set up. Other improvements include a new gas tank, fuel pump, all new switches, relays and electronics, a 4 core radiator with dual electric fans keep the hot Texas summers at bay and all new and correct suspension components which have been powder coated. The original rear end still contains the original gears and the look is completed with the original gold mesh-style alloy wheels which wear 244/50/16 front and 255/50/16 rear BFGoodrich tires. You want a fast F-body, they don't come much more wicked than this and that engine offers almost unlimited potential. Documented with PHS paperwork and other important history, this is an investment-grade Turbo Trans Am that's also completely amazing to drive. Call today!
