1964 Pontiac Grand Prix Base Additional Info:
Up for sale is a one owner till last month, 1964 Grand Prix. This car was purchased new by Jack and Marion Kay "Kay" Lhotak in Northeast NE in 64.Jack and Kay traded in there 62 Grand Prix, whichthey had bought new a couple years earlier, for the 64. Jack was a bank examiner at that time and he used the car to travelfrom bank to bank throughout Nebraska and neighboring states. After a few years he quit his job to spend moretime at home and become a banker, and the GP was used as his everyday car till the mid 70s. The car was kept as a second hand car and was eventually put into storage and drivensparingly. Throughout the years Jack and Kay movedaround NE and CA keeping the car thiswhole time, before retiring intheir hometown of Lexington, NE twenty years ago. In 2004 Jack repainted it in it's original color, Alamo Beige. At that time he also replaced the carpet and headliner. The GP however retains it's original Saddle vinyl seatupholstery. A few year back Jack and Kay decided they didn't want to continue paying for a storage unit for the GP and brought the car hometo store in their own garage. Fast forward to 2016, with father timecontinuingto march on, the GP was gettingdriven less and less. With this in mind, Jack and Kay decided to sell their beloved Grand Prix that has been apart of their lives for the last 52 years. I purchased the car from them on 10-13-16 with full disclosure that I was buying the car for resell.
The GP has its original 303hp, 10:5 compression, 389 4bbl, engine code 25K. It also has it's original Roto Hydra-Matic transmission, Neither of which have ever been out of the car since new. The car runs and drives very nice, and the 389 packs plenty of power.According to Jackthe car has 185kmiles on it, but what little I have drove the car it does not smoke or used any oil. This summer Jackhad the car tuned up and original Carter 4bbl rebuilt.The dual exhaust needs replaced from the mufflers back. The car looks to be very straight. Whoever did the body workprepped it very good becausethe bodyisn'twavy at all, however thepaint doeshave someorange peal, and overspray in places. You have to look to see it, but it is there. As my dad would say, " A dumb man won't see it, and a smart man won't be dumbenough to say anything." Also, when they put the Grand Prix lettering on they glued them on and did a poor job. Jack saidthatwhat little body rust there was, was replaced with patchpanels andnot mudded over.The trunk andfloorboards seem to be very solid, but the frame does have frame rot in it.Theoriginalupholstery does have some splits in the seems on the drivers and seat and backrest, as well as on the upper corner seems of thefront back rests. The front bumper has some chrome peeling, but the back bumper chrome is in nice shape. The tiresappear to be fairly new. The heater, fan, radio,and gauges all work very good. This car is not perfect, but is a nice fun driver. One owner cars of this era arebecoming harder and harder to find. Thanks for looking.
