Offered for sale is a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda / RestoMod Hemicuda Convertible. This vehicle was manufactured in Hamtramck, MI as a premium class, convertible with air conditioning and a 318 cu.in. engine. (V.I.N. BP27G0B10602).
Originally a California car, I purchased the car in July 1997 at the Mopar Nationals in Indianapolis. At that time, it had undergone a "full restoration" as an AAR Convertible clone including the complete drivetrain (See included pictures & sales flyer for reference). I enjoyed the car in this configuration for nearly 20 years before beginningits reconfiguration as a RestoMod Hemicuda Convertible.
The changes began with the car's exterior replacing the AAR look with a new black paint scheme, a shaker hood/scoop, and a rear "Go Wing" type spoiler. Additional updates at this time also included a new "red bar" front grille along with new exterior trim pieces including front grille, wheel openings, tail panel, and door top moldings.
In the fall of 2019 (Sep), I sourced a 6.4L Gen III Hemi engine w/ the accompanying 8-speed automatic transmission from a 2015 Dodge Challenger donor car (V.I.N. 2C3CDZFJ8FH744038). Computers, Electronic Shifter, and Accelerator were also sourced from that same vehicle. Studio Hotrods (Richmond, IL) was selected to install the new engine/transmission combination along with the required upgrades to support the transition to a new generation technology. This phase took over 2 years to complete due to the onset of the COVID pandemic.
Upon completion of the engine/transmission installation, a number of upgrades were included to complete the transition. Included in these final updates were a complete overhaul of the braking system (disc on front), new shock absorbers (front and rear) along with new tires and wheels (see below for a more detailed listing).
Significant documentation can be provided upon purchase along with the product installation guides for the recently installed tech upgrades. If you always wanted a real hemicuda convertible, as did I but couldn't afford the seven-figure price tag this is your next best option. The classic look of a 1970 'cuda convertible wrappedaround a new generation hemi drivetrain with the newest technology upgrades included. At 485hp, the 6.4L Gen III Hemi provides more power than the vintage 426 Hemi and when coupled with the 8-speed transmission provides a performance level the original just can't match. Best of luck with your bidding!
