1982 VW Westy Syncro 4x4, Subaru Conversion 2.5L, Audi Disc brakes, power steering.......read on.
All work to this van was professionally done by Small Car Performance in Fife, Washington. This work was done in 2020, while Brian was still the owner of the shop. I have all receipts.
This van was originally imported to Southern California from Germany in late 1981/early 1982. I have the original import papers in the glovebox! It has been a Southern California car for almost it's entire life. I took her to Washington for a short visit, but now she is back in SoCal. In Joshua Tree to be exact. This is a 45-min uber from Palm Springs airport or a 2-hour drive from Los Angeles.
This Westy has ::
A 2012 Subaru motor, 2.5L, with 30,000 miles on a complete rebuild. The motor is strong and runs well with zero issues. You can literally drive this van home day of pickup. This was approx $14,000 for the Subi conversion. Mine was a little more as it was originally a diesel.
This van has also had a syncro 4x4 conversion done. All parts were taken from a donor Vanagon and put onto this van. The 4x4 works excellent with zero issues. It also has the rear locking differential. So a two knob 4x4. This work was nearly $40k for the complete conversion. The donor van was a Vanagon 4x4. All parts were new or in excellent condition for this conversion. I have all receipts, which you are welcome to look over at time of purchase.
The van also has Audi disc brakes all around. Stopping is excellent with zero issues.
The van also features power steering, just completely rebuilt $2,000, which is a nice addition, since this is an early Westy.
This is a 5-speed, which is really a LOW gear, plus 1-4 speed.
All camper parts work on the van. The fridge is even still running. It will conk out at high elevation sometimes OR during days over 100f. I know that many people prefer to put in newer fridges, but I wanted to keep the van original in the kitchen. Faucet and stove are working fine.
I installed LED lights in the dash, making the dash readable, and bright should you want that......
Also the van has Go Westy Bumpers, South African Headlight conversion, truck mirrors, new camping pop up tent, roof rack with road shower, spare tire and some traction boards.
