1972 Opel 411-721 Additional Info:
1972 Opel GT
I found this car earlier this year when a friend of mine mentioned the passing of his uncle and needing to clean out his stuff. This was his daily driver up until the mid 90's. It was last registered in 1994. It was parked in his shed and left to sit for the next 25 years. I was surprised to hear that it should run and drive... if only they could find the keys...
I eventually took the door handle off and had a lock shop source some keys and sure enough the same key worked for the ignition. While I was waiting on the magical key I drained the old fuel out of the tank as best I could, ordered some new tires and put those on.
I made sure the oil was good and fresh gas was in the tank.... and sure enough it fired right up. My 15 year old son was in amazement and couldn't wait to take it for a spin around the yard. Over the summer we drove it around the storage yard and to the store and back a few times, we never cleaned anything out of the inside and basically hosed the outside off just to see out the windshield.
Here is what I know;
It runs pretty good, clutch feels good, it has 4 new tires, brakes look good and operate like they should, under the hood is all factory correct stuff right down to the filter box which most people tossed in favor of something that breaths better, the interior is all there, I'd bet it's all original buckskin / offwhite color, there is a spare tire and wheel in the back, the headlights rotate and all lights seem to work like they should. It seems to be totally rust free! (it was under cover those 25 years) It's missing the emblems.
Originally a Rallye Gold car 411 paint code
Things I know need addressed;
It needs a real wheel seal, Drivers rear - I already have the part.It needs a water pump, it leaks - I already have that also.It needs the passenger window replaced - I already have that also.The fuel is still off colored and smelly, it would be best to take the gas tank out and have it boiled clean.
That's it! It's a fun little car that you can have and fix for little money. I'd love to see it restored to the original Rallye Gold color.It has a battery in it and you can start it up and load it onto your trailer easily. Why am I getting rid of it? read on...
If you want pictures of anything else just ask.
I'm only selling it because I have so many cars, boats, tractors, and toys.... time to sell them all and start over.
NO RESERVE!! LOOK AT MY OTHER AUCTIONS!!
