1955 Oldsmobile Super 88 Regional Champion Drag Car
A piece of Automotive History, this Super 88 is a rarely-found-intact ex Drag car that campaigned in the '60's and '70's in the North East, most often at Connecticut Dragway.
It raced in K/Stock Automatic class and consistently turned low 16's. A total of 31 NHRA Class Winner stickers adorn it's rear side windows along with other vintage stickers and there is faded lettering on both quarter panels that says "New England States Championship 1966".
Amazingly, all the Vintage Speed Equipment it had when it was raced is still with it.
The former owner had indicated to me that the 324 engine (which turns freely) is bored .060 over, has an Isky Cam, a Mallory Dual Point Distributor and a 2" Carb Spacer but is otherwise stock as NHRA rules required.
He had Headers custom made for it by Tubular Automotive in MA. They've seen better days but there's enough left of them to make copying them possible.
It's got a vintage Stewart Warner Tach, Traction Master Traction Bars, a "Getz Gear" Ring and Pinion, Tow Tabs and a floor shifted HYDRO-MOTIVE Racing Hydramatic Transmission which, I believe, is Reverse Valve Body.
As I understand it, the car was stored inside for 30 years and outside for ten. The body is straight and is mildly rusted out in a few areas but nothing major. The interior is gutted except for a pair of fiberglass racing seats that are in great shape.
The Engine and Trans are currently out of the car but were in it and complete when purchased. They can be re-installed just for transport, and the car packed with all the rest of it's parts, at the buyers request.
