Greetings to All!! After 23 years in business(44 years if you count when I started), I have decided to Retire!! International Motorcars of Pittsburgh LTD. will close its doors on May 31, 2016(I might be a few weeks late!), after being located in Export, Pa 15632 since June of 2005. It's been a GREAT home, and I feel quite privileged to have been a part of this fabulous community!!
The remaining inventory will be fully sorted, unless noted in the description, before being listed and sold. EVERYTHING on the website is for sale. Eventually, It will all be sold here at NO RESERVE! Please be a REAL buyer when you win! Ask whomever you need to ask, and please have your finances in hand.!!
NOTE************ I have had TWO deals complete since the several NO RESERVE Auctions that we have run here over the last several weeks. Apparently bidding and winning means nothing. It is too bad that there are not more ethical folks here anymore(And you know exactly who you are!!)......
We are down to 10 cars remaining.......Make me a realistic offer, and you will own it!! Lowballers will be Ignored!!
Inspections are welcomed and encouraged BEFORE auctions end!!
Greetings to All!! imotors is quite pleased to offer this Very Kool 1954 Oldsmobile 98 with a very Kool story!! This is a one owner car that I purchased indirectly from the original owner's widow!! All old car lovers everywhere get weak in the knees when one like this becomes available. A One owner, fanatically serviced and always garaged car that was apparently treated like one of the family! Examples like this one are unheard of!
I found this one owner Olds on the AACA chat forum a few years ago. it was being sold by the widows grandson son in law in Grand rapids Michigan. It was described as a totally original car that ran and drove but had some "Sitting issues". And boy, did it ever(more about that later)!!
The way that it is presented here is basically exactly the way that I bought it almost 2 years ago!! We just recently had it professionally detailed, and had new carpets installed. It is 98% rust free, and has just a few blisters on the bottom of the left rear door and left front fender heel. Nothing through, or patched anywhere!! The frame and underbody/floors are perfect!! I have pics of when the carpet was out and also underneath pics. The chrome is totally original, and gorgeous. Those Fantastic "Helms" Bumper Guards were a period acessory(I think they are way Kool!!), and were produced in the same town where this car was born and raised with it's only owner! Interior is also totally original, with the exception of the carpets. they are supposed to be correct as original, and were purchased from SMS. They also have the material to do the seats, if the new owner chooses to do so. I would be glad to supply the quote. Take a look at the pictures of the dash. I can't believe that it could have looked any different when new!! All lights and gauges function correctly, including courtesy, and nite time dash illumination. The radio plays sometimes, and sometimes not. It is a Wonderbar with a working foot switch. Again....JUST like we found it with some VERY minor cosmetic detailing!
Now, mechanically is a totally different story.
First we pulled, and cleaned the fuel tank, and installed a new sending unit for the gauge. Then we rebuilt the entire braking system. EVERY thing was replaced to include all hydraulics, and shoes with hardware, with the exception of the drums. The Treadle Vac was done by White Post Restoration, and should be lifetime guaranteed with our receipt! Next, off to the transmission shop, as it would shift from second to nothing!!! Completely rebuilt the transmission!! THEN.....I did a compression test, and found a few weak cylinders. I did a complete tune up, had the 4 barrel carb rebuilt, and thought that if I drove it some, the "Sitting issues" of the matching numbers 324 V8 would work themselves out.....Wrong!!!! Both heads were cracked, and the first set that I located were cracked also! After some looking and sleuthing, I came up with a set of good '55 heads. They were sent to the machine shop, and received a good boiling and cleaning, and a fresh valve job. When we re-assembled, we installed fresh belts, and hoses, and did an oil and filter change with Brad-Penn(It has Zinc). Now it starts immediately, and runs and drives extremely well.!!
I did nothing with tires, or suspension. There is a sticker on the inside of the glove box stating that these tires were installed on Sept.10, 1986 with 77,770 miles. I decided to leave them alone, and let the next owner decide what to put on.
I've probably driven it about 100 miles since the rebuild. It runs and drives quite well, and floats down the highway. It has that unmistakable Oldsmobile feel of quality!!
There are several detailed photos below tracing our Oldsmobile's life from purchase on July 10, 1954 to it's last service entry in July of 1972 with 76,306 miles on the odometer. The next chapter is 14 years and about 1300 miles later, with 77,770 miles. The hand writing is the same, so I only assume that it was still being driven by the original owner. I bought it in 2014 with 86,000, so 9,000 miles after 1986 until he stopped driving who know when! The documentation for almost 25 years is amazing, and only attests to our 98's extreme originality!!
Take a look at the 120 photographs below and see the actual condition of this One of A Kind Oldsmobile 98 Sedan.

Many Thanks for Your Interest! Good Luck with Your Bidding!! |
You can tell by the condition of the beautiful paint that this Beauty was Always Garaged and Pampered!! This is the worst of any issues! Note how nice and straight all of the stainless trim is!! | The 98 was Oldsmobiles flagship, and rivaled the Buicks and Pontiacs in it's day!! It is a Desired and Sought After model that is sure to be a welcome sight at any gathering!!
| | The Jet Black Paint Just Glistens in the sun, pretty much the same way it did 62 years ago!! I believe it to be largely original, with the necessary maintenance and upkeep performed to keep it in the tip top shape that you see here!
| | Note how nice and even the gaps are!
| | In this Photo you can see the absence of rust in the wheel lips.
| | As I'm sure you all know, it is very typical to have some rot in these ares....this one is super solid and original.
| The chrome is original, and free of damage or pitting!! | The Helms bumper guards are just spectacular!!! Oddly enough, our Gorgeous 98 lived in Grand Rapids Michigan, right where they were manufactured!!
| | Nothing says the Fifties like Chrome!
| | None of the typical rot here!!
| | Our Oldsmobile is equipped with the optional middle rear speaker!
| | More doors carry more friends!!
| | Note accessory vent shades!
| | I think 50's cars are some of the finest to come from Detroit!!
| | Way cool Helms guard up front also!
| | Drive a "Rocket" Oldsmobile!!
|
| The interior, including the door panels is all original, with the exception of the carpets!!!
| | I would guess that a padded dash in 1954 was a luxurious feature. Ours is like the day it left the dealership in 1954!
| Only the 98's had the extra trim!!!
| The jambs are rust free!!
| As kids, we used the "Robe Rails" to hang onto! None of the typical weather damage here! The headliner is 62 years old too!
| The original dashboard is one of the nicest I have ever seen. Certainly the most attractive of the 54 GM family!
| Both visors have period accessory vanity mirrors! The clock is not operating These are the tires that are currently on the car today!!! The new owner can decide on replacements! |
