1964 Oldsmobile StarFire!
1964 Oldsmobile Starfire Coupe
Rotisserie Restoration - Show Winner - Outstanding

You are viewing my privately owned 1964 Oldsmobile Starfire two door hardtop coupe. It is highly documented, and probably the nicest in the world.
You will be purchasing this vehicle directly from me, and I have a clear Ohio title in hand ready to go.
The vehicle comes with a large tote bin full of '64 Starfire literature, brochures, owner's manual, shop manuals, documents, receipts, and a photo album showing the "Nut and Bolt" rotisserie restoration.
The original protection plan manual with the metal "Protect-O-Plate" is also included with the sale.
There are receipts totaling over $60,000 for just the restoration, not including the price of the car.
Please note my reserve price is much much less than that $60K figure. There is no way someone can build or restore a vehicle with this type of detail and quality for what my reserve price is set at.
To be fair to other bidders, please don’t ask my reserve price. Please call me. I'll be happy to discuss the vehicle with you. If you want to make an offer please let me know. If we can agree on a price,
I will end the auction early. If the car doesn’t meet its low reserve price, I will contact the highest bidder and see if we can negotiate a price. So make sure you place your bid for this gorgeous vehicle.

Bid with confidence! Below is a very detailed description going over every area of the vehicle. Please read and view all of the 131 pictures listed below.
Would you buy a car on ebay with four pictures and one paragraph of description? NO.
That is why I have a large photo gallery and will describe the vehicle with extensive detail.
My Phone Number is also listed in this auction if you want to discuss this Starfire with me.
If you are an Auto Collector looking to add a "Blue Chip" type of vehicle to you collection, don't miss your chance with this Starfire. 1964 Oldsmobile Starfire Coupe
History Of The Vehicle This 1964 Oldsmobile Starfire was built at the Arlington, Texas assembly plant. (Confirmed by the “T” in the VIN number.) It was ordered and purchased new by DR. B. E. Rigsby, DDS a dentist from the Houston, Texas area. The Oldsmobile dealership was “Bill McDavid Oldsmobile”, which was one of the nation’s top-selling Oldsmobile dealerships at the time. Dr. Rigsby took delivery of his new Starfire on February, 4th 1964. (See "Protect-O-Plate" photo)
The Second Owner: In 1986, a Mr. Hunter from Minnesota, purchased this Starfire from the dentist. (The original owner) At that time it had approximately 78,000 miles on the odometer. It was a very clean pampered Texas car with no rust of any sort. Mr. Hunter continued to pamper this Starfire throughout the years and was shown by him for many years at local car shows in its unrestored state, still sporting her original paint. 18 years later in the summer of 2004, the Starfire still being a very respectable survivor show car, Mr. Hunter decided to take this car to the highest level of restoration. The below description will describe in detail on how this 1964 Olds received its over the top, rotisserie frame off, nut and bolt, complete professional restoration. The Third Owner: 2014, Mr. Hunter after 28 years, decided to sell his beautiful restored Starfire, which only had a few 1,000 miles since its complete restoration. It was sold to a private automobile collector and enthusiast, and also at the time was Chair of the Board for the Peterson Automobile Museum, in Los Angeles, CA. This is where this Starfire resided and was displayed at, the Peterson Automobile Museum in LA. The Forth Owner: (Me) In 2015, I had the opportunity to purchase this amazing Oldsmobile from the above owner and had it shipped (enclosed trailer) from the Peterson Automobile Museum, in LA., directly to my home in Ohio. I probably put about 400 miles on it a year, for the past 4 years. Only taking it out in nice weather to a few high-end car shows. Always winning best of show of course. It’s always covered and stored in my climate controlled garage. As you will see in my below description and many detailed pictures, it’s still perfect in every way. Optional Equipment on this Starfire from the Factory:
  • VIN: 864T013837
  • Air Conditioning
  • Power Seat - 4 Way
  • Corning Lamps
  • Guide-Matic Headlight Control
  • Power Trunk Release
  • Super Deluxe Wheel Covers
  • Rear Window Defrost
  • AM / FM Radio
  • Reverbatone Speaker System
  • Power Antenna
  • Seat Belts, Front W / Retractors
  • Anti-Spin Differential 3.64:1
  • Soft-Ray Tinted Glass All
  • Guard, Fuel Filler Door
  • Tilt-Away Steering Wheel
  • Simulated Wood Grain Sport Steering Wheel
  • Paint & Body: First, no expense was spared during this professional restoration. As you can see from the pictures during the restoration, this car received a rotisserie frame off, nut and bolt beautiful complete restoration. All documented properly. Not an amateur frame off restoration either. This rust free solid body was taken all apart and stripped to bare metal. The car still retains all its original body panels and floor pans with no patch work. The original color was Saddle Mist. During the restorations, Mr. Hunter wanted to change the color to Silver. (His dad had a silver '64 Starfire.) The color is called "Sheffield Mist", which was a factory color in 1964 for the Starfires. The car was painted with a high end PPG base coat clear coat system. This car is extremely straight, paint was properly wet sanded and buffed with no orange peel or waives. The gloss and reflection is excellent. Body gaps and alignment are perfect in every way. All doors, hood and trunk close beautifully. For sure a very high end show paint job. Nothing has popped, blistered over the past 15 years due to bad body work or hidden issues or rust. This car has no dings, scrapes or scratches, no issues or surprises. Chrome & Trim: The chrome and stainless on the car is beautiful. The chrome has all been professionally re-plated and all stainless has been professionally straightened and polished to a mirror finish which is better than new. Many very rare NOS chrome and stainless pieces were used during the restoration. Even the hard to find and often pitted pot metal rocker panels moldings are in beautiful condition. Please note the "Tri-Bar" headlamp covers on the high beam headlights. Although they were supposed to be a standard feature for the '64 Starfires, Oldsmobile stopped putting them on the vehicles during production and told the dealerships to pull them off the cars. Evidently the law-enforcement, police, didn't like them over the headlights. Oldsmobile stopped making them. Olds referred to these tri-bar headlamp covers as “Custom Sport Headlights”. They are expensive and extremely difficult to locate. The covers appeared on the first Starfires built before and shortly after Oldsmobile’s 1964 model-year introduction on Friday, Oct. 4, 1963, but was dropped before the year was out. This car is wearing them and they are NOS and perfect. Interior: The interior was completely 100% redone. It is nearly perfect and is factory correct in every way. Everything is out of the box perfect. The black leather bucket seats and door upholstery were available through SMS Auto Fabrics. R&R Upholstery in the Twin Cities were able to install the material so well that it once again perfectly complements the brushed stainless panels on the doors and the chrome trim throughout the seating area. The carpet is all new, which retains the built-in stainless steel ribs floor mats, only for the Starfire models. The headliner is new and in perfect condition. All of the dash and console pieces are excellent including the knobs, switches, gauges, factory tachometer, trim and interior emblems. This Starfire also carries the "Group 1" lighting package, which includes backup, under-hood and trunk lamps. With an additional factory 10 interior lamps to create a mood for cocktails at the backyard terrace under the evening sky, this Starfire might be Oldsmobile’s brightest-burning rocket. This Starfire also has the very rare option “Simulated WoodGrain Tilt-Away Steering Wheel”. (See picture of steering wheel.) It's beautiful and was professionally restored by a steering wheel guru. Also the clock was converted over to a Quartz movement and keeps perfect time. Trunk Compartment: The trunk compartment is finished to its original looking. All the items are in their correct place including the spare tire. Even the tire jack, brackets and its components are all powder coated. This vehicle is equipped with the factory vacuum trunk release option that works perfectly. It holds vacuum at the switch for months when the car sits. Again never any rust issues. As you can see the factory power antenna is mounted in the truck and works perfectly. The factory “Reverbatone” Speaker System components are in the proper place, mounted in the trunk and working perfectly. Engine Compartment: The original numbers matching 394 C.I. 345 Horsepower engine still sits under the hood. See the "Mechanical" section below for information on this rebuilt power plant. As you can see from the engine compartment pictures, it is correctly and highly detailed. Anything or any part that is black, including the wheel wells, core support, all suspension parts are powered coated black, not painted. Everything was professionally stripped and powered coated.
The factory Air Conditioning system received many new NOS components, including the compressor, evaporator, condenser, dryer and lines. The system was converted to R134. It is charged and is blowing cold. However the fan/blower is kind of wimpy, not very strong even on high. I hear guys are converting the fan to a stronger type, if someone wishes to do that. Glass: All of the factory tinted glass pieces are in excellent shape. The windshield is nice without any chips, stone nicks or wiper marks. The vent and side windows are working with no issues or problems. All of the seals and trim pieces are in great condition. Wheels and Tires: The tires are "Coker Classics" radials, size P235/75R14. They are sporting the correct 1” wide white wall. The tires are in excellent shape and the white walls always stay nice and bright and aren't yellowing or browning out. The tires are mounted on its original 14” steel rims that have been powder coated. These factory rims have the ultra-rare “Super Deluxe Wheel Covers” which were an option for the Starfires. As you can see in the pictures they are in excellent shape without any scratches, dings or curb scrapes. Each wheel has five lug nuts to hold the steel wheel to the studs, plus an additional three lug nuts to hold down each Cast-Magnesium wheel cover. There were 3 or 4 wheel cover options for the ‘64 Starfire. These being simply the best looking and most rare, in my opinion. Undercarriage: The underside of this car is as clean and detailed as the top. Please view all the undercarriage photos to understand the level of this restoration. Again, it received an extensive total rotisserie frame off, nut and bolt restorations. The underside is painted in its base coat/clear coat Sheffield Mist, silver body paint. Anything you see that is "Black" is powder coated, including the gas tank, rear end housing, suspension and brake system parts. All new body mounts, bushing, ball joints new front end parts and all 4 new springs. All high end MOOG parts, no junk here. Car sits just right. Also the steering box was upgraded to a quick ratio box, for better feel and drivability.
Nine times out of ten, people selling a car would not talk about or take any photos of the underside. The undercarriage tells you a lot about the car, that is why there are a few pictures of the bottom. Mechanical: Engine:
The original numbers matching 394 C.I. 345 horsepower engine was rebuilt. (probably a bit more HP now) This 10.50:1 "Ultra High" compression engine was completely and professionally rebuilt, blue printed and balanced during its major restoration in 2004. It was bored 40 thousandths and is now 406 cubic inches. A new correct grind special Starfire cam was installed. Yes, Starfire cams were different than other 394 cams for the 88’s and 98’s. Receipts for the rebuild will go along with this car. Please see a few pics of the engine rebuild, note new valves in heads etc. All high end parts used. This car runs extremely well and smooth, very strong. There are only about 5,600 miles on this engine and vehicle since it was restored. There may be a slight oil leak when the car sits for a while, but just probably needs to be driven more.
    Transmission & Rear End:
Bolted to the engine is a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission with O/D. This is probably the best thing that makes this car so fun and a true pleasure to drive. This transmission conversion was professionally done and uses a Bendtsen’s adapter. Even the console shift pattern plate was custom made “laser cut” (see pics of console), to reflect the new correct shift pattern to: P-R-N-D-3-2-1 from the old Slim Jim Trans: P-N-D-2-1-R. This 700R4 is a very high end build with many heavy duty internals, and like the engine, received the best of everything. Including a very expensive Sonnax Industries drum, and heavy duty clutches, shift kit, Corvette servo, etc. Over $5,000 was invested in this transmission conversion to make it look and function correctly. A new custom drive shaft was made and is connected up to a 3.64:1 "Posi" rear end. These 3:64 rear end gears are NOS “GM” and not re-pop noisy gears. The firmness of the shifts can be adjusted easily to meet your needs and likes. This Starfire cruises down the highway at 70 MPH and the tachometer reads about 1800 RPM’s. Depending on your preference and throttling aggression, coming out of first gear, the Starfire will do a nice side step going into second, if you wish.
    Brakes:
Power brake booster and master cylinder are new when it was restored. It also received new stainless steel brake lines and hoses along with new brake hardware. The brake system was then filled with silicone brake fluid. The factory stock brake drums and components are also all powder coated. The brakes have been adjusted and are working great. They do not pulsate, fade, or pull. The parking brake has been adjusted and is working fine.
    Exhaust System:
The dual exhaust system was custom made to fit this car perfectly. It has an “H” pipe to equalize the back pressure. System is very uniform and symmetrical. No goofy hangers, clamps, twist or curves. Very clean and professional looking. The pipes are aluminumized with high-end Magna-Flow mufflers. This car is not loud, and is just right with a great sound.
