1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst 15th Anniversary Additional Info:

Introduced to mark the fifteenth anniversary of the first of its kind to hit the market, this 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst 15th Anniversary Edition not only offers an array of special touches that separate it from its more common counterparts, but also marks an important time in Oldsmobile's history as a sort of "keeper of an era." At the time of its release, Detroit was moving away from the more traditional big engine, rear wheel drive cars and the venerable... Cutlass brand was literally split into two distinct factions - the front wheel drive Cierra, with its modestly-sized line of engines, and the more traditional G-type Cutlass Supreme line on which this Hurst Olds is based. The two-toned, black and gray paint job, scooped hood and rear spoiler are just some of the visual cues telling you this is no garden variety Cutlass. With a red stripe partitioning the shades while running the entire circumference of the car, it's an appealing color scheme and, combined with the opera windows in back and the set of special edition wheels, this is an exterior that exudes plenty of mid-'80s cool. Back when this '83 was released, the American buying public agreed wholeheartedly - Olds dealers ran out of this special edition pretty quickly. This representative still acquits itself well - it visited the paint booth for a refresher a while back and has a clean overall appearance that will be elevated by a thorough detailing and its set of special edition decals are looking razor sharp. The featured T-top configuration is a great plus, as it gives you the option of open-air motoring when you so choose, and the panels are included and fit nicely. Inside, you'll find a very comfortable burgundy interior. Both the crushed velour buckets and bench were reupholstered during the restoration process, so they're fresh and well-padded and you'll find an appreciable amount of legroom for passengers both fore and aft. There's also a nice array of creature comforts on board, including power seats, power windows and door locks and a tilt wheel, as well as air conditioning that will return to top form with a simple freon charge. Slide into the driver's seat and look down towards the center console and you'll see a truly inspired feature: the Hurst/Olds "Lightning Sticks" shifter. With their unique configuration, the Lightning Sticks allow the driver to manually operate the automatic transmission - an exceedingly cool precursor to paddle shifters that would come along decades later. Both the dash area, with its plaque proclaiming this car's special edition status, and the center console are in excellent condition, as is the trunk area in back. Beneath the hood, a 5.0 liter overhead valve V8 sits in the well-maintained engine compartment, surrounded by clean components. Equipped with a 4-barrel carb, it starts right up and pulls with enthusiasm as it pairs with a TH200-r4 4-speed overdrive transmission that's so well-regarded, it's often used on highly modified, aftermarket drivetrains. This is also an easy and comfortable car to drive - power brakes at all four corners provide the stopping power you'll need, and the power steering is impressively responsive. This eye-catching, special edition Oldsmobile rides on a set of 15" special edition Hurst Olds wheels wrapped with BF Goodrich T/A radials that still have plenty of tread remaining. Below, the undercarriage is solid and ready for plenty more future miles. Searching for a great-looking, well-appointed mid-'80s cruiser with bona fide collectability?
