1952 MGTD Replica Kit Car – Built in 1988 – 7,821 Original Miles – California Survivor – NO RESERVE
Original paint body interior. Original tires and caps.
Volkswagen
Up for auction is a really cool 1952 MGTD replica kit car that was built back in 1988. The car shows only 7,821 miles and has been parked and stored in California since around 1993. It was covered with tarps for many years and has been sitting untouched for a very long time.
I recently brought it back to life and got it running again. I rebuilt the carburetor, put fresh gas in it, installed a new battery, cleaned the fuel tank and replaced the fuel lines. She starts right up and sounds great. I uploaded a video so you can hear it run and see it operating.
This is a really cool survivor-type car. The interior is original and is in surprisingly nice condition for its age. The seats and carpet are in amazing shape. The original top is also included. I have the original side windows as well. They are usable but are not perfect, and they show their age.
The original paint has held up pretty well considering the car has been sitting for decades. It is a little dull and could definitely use a good polish or wax, but there is no major peeling or cracking of the paint. I took lots of pictures so you can see the condition for yourself. There are some small spots and imperfections that I pointed out in the pictures.
The body is very solid. No rust issues and no body cracks. This car has been kept covered here in California throughout the years.
The lights work and I demonstrate the turn signals in the video. The transmission shifts through all the gears and the clutch feels good.
The brakes will need attention. The pedal/brakes feel funny and it may need the brakes bled or possibly a brake job. I did move and drive the car a short distance after getting it running, but I did NOT drive it far or fast because of the brakes. I used the handbrake to stop it. Please keep this in mind when bidding. The car should be inspected and serviced before being driven on the road.
The tires are also very old and appear to be original, so they should be replaced before regular driving. It’s pretty amazing to see a car like this still sitting on its original equipment after all these years.
I had big plans for this car, but unfortunately things have changed financially and I have decided to let it go.
This car will be sold to the highest bidder at the end of the auction — no reserve.
I took a lot of pictures from top to bottom, so please look through all of them carefully. I also uploaded a video of the car starting and running.
This is not a brand-new restored car. It’s a 1988-built MGTD replica that has survived decades of storage with its original interior, original top, original paint and only 7,821 miles showing. It will need some recommissioning, especially the brakes and tires, but it is a really neat, honest survivor that you don’t see every day.
Please review all photos and video carefully, as they are part of the description.
