1952 MG TD/C - Mark II Competition Model Fully Restored and Gorgeous
I am pleased to offer this rare 1952 MG TD Mark II (TDC), one of only 1,710 Mark II variants produced out of over 30,000 TD’s built.
Serial # TD/C 17497 Engine # XPAG/TD317535
Designed as a competition model, it features factory upgrades including:
- Eight shock absorbers
- Dual SU fuel pumps
- Larger 1.5” SU carburetors
- Bigger valves and higher compression ratio
- Increased horsepower and a higher rear axle ratio
- Chrome grille slats
This is a matching-numbers car showing just 15,XXX miles on the odometer. While mileage cannot be definitively verified, the exceptional condition of the frame, wood, chrome, upholstery, and even the rubber pedal pads strongly suggests originality. The car was previously displayed at the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, IL, until its sale roughly a decade ago. It was driven sparingly until a piston ring failure five years ago prompted the start of a mechanical restoration.
In July 2024, the current owner acquired the car from its 85-year-old owner and completed a frame-up restoration. Highlights include:
Chassis & Bodywork
- Frame and suspension bead-blasted, primed, and finished in gloss black rustoleum
- All sheet metal sanded and minor dents repaired
- Wood and metal were in excellent condition prior to blasting
- Body panels painted inside and out in original Woodland Green (British Racing Green) using two-part epoxy paint, then clear-coated
- Fender beading painted BRG with a flex agent
