1954 MG TFRust Free Project, Wire Wheels, Complete
In the late 1940's when servicemen who were stationed overseas returned home, some of them (by way of the UK) purchased and brought home MGs. They were affordable, super cool looking and handled well. My grand dad was one such serviceman who brought back a British Racing Green TC. He told stories of Fords and Chevys being left behind by his TC in the twisty turns of Rock Creek Parkway near DC. The MG's light weight, simplicity and classic looks were so appealing that they literally pioneered the sports car craze in the US.
The TF was the last in the T-series which actually began in 1936 with the TA. The TF, built from 1954-1955 was arguably the best driving of all of them. This wire wheel example is from 1954 and was driven into the garage in 1998 where it remained parked until recently. It needs full restoration but is completely rust free and complete including a full set of side curtains.
The car has its original matching numbers 1250cc engine-see photos. The engine turns freely and appears to be stock.Everything on the car except the top and side curtain covering appears to be original-paint, leather interior, dash, etc.The body is razor straight and contains no bondo. The wood floors are excellent with no rot, as well as the door frames and body.
The tires hold air and it rolls easily. There are some original tools included in the tool box. Parts availability for these MGs is excellent with Moss Motors in California able to supply literally EVERYTHING needed for a restoration at reasonable prices. This is a very straightforward, complete project ready for a proper refurbishment.
