1969 MGB – RARE Cayman Islands RHD, Steel Dash, Les Leston Wheel – Immaculate, Beautifully Sorted, Incredible Driver
This is, without exaggeration, the nicest-looking and best-driving MGB out of the 100+ classic British cars I’ve owned.
A rare Cayman Islands–spec, right-hand-drive 1969 MGB featuring a steel dashboard, early-style interior details, and a highly desirable Les Leston steering wheel.
Originally from the Cayman Islands, built RHD with several pre-1968 features.
Imported to the U.S. roughly 25 years ago by John Parks of Dunlap, IL — a former GM automotive designer.
Restored by Parks, then sold to well-known Peoria sculptor Preston Jackson.
Later purchased by a woman in Bishop Hill, IL, where it saw minimal use for ~15 years.
I discovered it in a barn in Bishop Hill in Spring 2025, where it had been sitting since its last service in 2017.
After purchasing the car, I went through it thoroughly and addressed all needed maintenance, including:
New water pump
New coolant hoses
Completely renewed ignition system
Full mechanical inspection and sorting
The car runs beautifully and drives better than any MGB I’ve owned—tight, smooth, and confidence-inspiring.
This MGB is immaculate—inside, outside, and underneath.
Its careful life and high-quality restoration are immediately obvious.
Right-hand drive
Steel dash
Genuine Les Leston steering wheel — rare, collectible, and a major upgrade in feel
Early/pre-’68 interior features
Superb road manners and mechanical refinement
Excellent body work
Speedometer needle jumps at times — this is almost always caused by a dry or aging cable.
A simple lubrication or cable replacement typically resolves it; an easy, common MGB repair.
Steering rack boots are torn – new boots included, just not installed yet.
Horn is not original.
Fuel pump is not original (works perfectly).
Soft top has blemishes from improper storage.
A truly special MGB with rare specifications, exceptional condition, and standout provenance—not to mention the highly sought-after Les Leston steering wheel.
If you want an MGB that looks spectacular, drives even better, and stands out from the crowd, this one delivers.
