Only 30 miles on restoration. Here is a short list of work done: 1980 MGB V6 CONVERSION COMPLETELY RESTORED FOR SALE. • Unlike earlier MG models the MGB has no separate frame and body. It is what is called a semi-monocoque design. A combination of frame and basic body panels is built and then doors, fenders, hood and trunk cover are added to complete the car body. In this restoration all mechanical elements (engine, transmission, rear axle etc) were removed as well as all removable body panels. The basic frame/body unit (tub) was then stripped down to bare metal on all surfaces. The body panels that were removed were also stripped to bare metal on both exterior and interior surfaces. Any rust was removed and any rusted-through metal was replaced with new sheet metal. The non-visible metal surfaces were then etched and painted with two coats of POR 15 rust inhibiting paint. The exposed surfaces were then coated with acid-etched primer. All exterior surfaces were then painted with epoxy based primer and then two coats of primer filler. These surfaces were then sanded flat and painted with two coats of base/coat polyurethane British Racing Green paint. Afterward two coats of polyurethane clear coat were applied and color sanded and then polished. Finally, the exterior surfaces were treated with carnauba auto polish/wax. • Rubber bumpers were replaced with Moss supplied chrome bumpers and additional body panels to make the car equivalent to earlier MGB chrome bumper models. • Hood, trunk, door hinges, door latches, door handles, luggage rack and exterior chrome trim were cleaned, painted and lubricated where necessary. • Luggage rack is original dealer-installed MGB luggage rack. • Replacements were obtained where cleaning and painting were not feasible. • New top was installed with stripped and repainted top hardware and all new seals. • Window mechanisms were cleaned and painted with all new window seals. Vent window seals were also replaced. • ENGINE: A 3.1 liter 1992 Chevrolet Camaro and transmission were obtained. The transmission is a Borg Warner T5 World Class (WC) 5 speed manual transmission. The engine and transmission were obtained as a matched single unit. • The engine was completely disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt with new: o Mainandrodbearings o Pistonrings(compressionandoilscraperrings) o Pushrods o Rockerarms o Valves o Valvespringsandoilseals o Enginesealsandgaskets o Aluminumvalvecoversfrom1992PontiacFiero o Timingchain o Timingchainsprockets o Camandcambearings o Flywheelwasresurfaced o Newpressureplate, clutchplate, slavecylinderandhosewereinstalled o Edelbrockaluminumintakemanifoldinstalled o Edelbrock390cfm4barrelcarburetorinstalled o Hotcoatednewexhaustheadersinstalled. o Newexhaustpipesandmufflerinstalledwithchrometippedresonator. o Newfuelpump, hoses, fuelfilterinstalled • Valve heads were flattened and valve seats were professionally re-ground. • Cylinders were professionally re-honed • Engine was then professionally re-assembled. • TRANSMISSION: • Completely disassembled and cleaned. • New bearings, seals, synchronizers and gears (where necessary) were installed. • REAR AXLE: Rare MG built 3.07 rear axle used in MGB V8 models was installed because the original 3.91 rear axle used with the 65 HP original engine was unnecessary. This allows the car to accelerate rapidly while keeping engine rpm and noise at acceptable levels when cruising. • DRIVE SHAFT: new driveshaft and universal joints compatible with the V6 and T-5 transmission were installed. • Installed pinion angle was checked and within spec. • BRAKES: • All new stainless steel brakelines were installed. • All new brake hoses were installed. • All new brake rotors, drums, wheel cylinders, disk brake calipers and hardware were installed. • New brake master cylinder installed. • TIRES: 5 new BF Goodrich radial tires were obtained and installed.
