1974 MG MGB Additional Info:
Up for sale is a very solid, beautiful 1974 MGB. This is the last year for chrome bumper. 1974 1/2 went to rubber bumpers, and the suspension was raised because US government wanted higher headlites! Imagine. When I say solid, I mean the body is in great survivor shape with solid floors and no rust. This year the grille was a black insert. Very pretty front face. The rear has beautiful”Italian” designed tail lites and trunk. From the back you could imagine a mini Ferrari. Sitting behind the wheel and looking down the long hood is a wonderful experience. It has been in storage or garaged for 20 years at least. The original date it was put into “barn find” storage has been lost. At least 20 years anyway. Professional repaint to original Harvest Gold color in March of 2014 . The body was in very solid shape, needing minor attention to a few dings. The paint job came with a 5 year warranty. I would say the paint job is good. It is not perfect/pristine. The floor boards are original and very solid. No rust. The undercarriage also is solid with no rust. Painter said they could not see any abuse or bondo about the car. This car was discovered in a “barn” storage ( by Hell’s Angels member I was told) and landed at a reputable MG person in San Francisco. It was purchased in 2008 and shipped to Michigan. It spent time garaged in Michigan, then moved when owner moved to tennessee, then moved to South Carolina in 2013 when owner moved again. Always garaged and/or covered. The odometer in 2008 showed around 62000 miles and now shows 72000+. The odometer appears to be correct, but no guarantees based on age. I feel confidant that his odometer has not been rolled back. These 40 year old cars do not have only 1000 or 2000 or 3000 miles. In 2008 it got new tires, new paint on rims to original, new brakes, new plugs and wires, new plastic windows in the top, new fan belt and hoses, new distributor cap, and new fluids. Nuts and bolts were checked and tightened, and springs, shocks, and steering components were checked to ensure OK. Also, gas tank exchanged.
Later the SU carbs were upgraded to Weber carb and manifold system. Petronics electronics points and upgraded coil installed. The interior is in good shape for the year, but the driver’s seat is held together by the required duct tape. The top is solid with no holes. The lights and switches work, but the markings on the switches have faded. Very original. The 4 speed shifts well. The engine pulls well. It has a puff of smoke on initial start-up. It starts up eagerly. The oil pressure gauge shows 50+ at idle and higher. I am 6 feet two inches tall and have plenty of leg room. It has better legroom than a Datsun 240z car. 1000 deposit. I reserve the right to sell car locally.Car has no overdrive.
