1950 MG TD Additional Info:
This car is a beautiful and very reliable early MG TD (VIN # TD 0684) that I have owned for 38 years.
It was the 433rd TD car, built on Feb. 9, 1950. I had it undergo an accurate, high-quality restoration in 1979-80 and have used this car sparingly over the entire time since. Back then it was a "First-in-Class" show trophy winner, and is still a very beautiful, and reliable car. Mechanically, the car is excellent, and has no issues. It runs extremely well - no vapor lock here in hot Texas, and never any problems starting even in cold Idaho winters. No rust ever - anywhere, and excellent chrome. This car is as clean underneath as on top. I have consistently maintained the car in top condition, by routine service and using the best grades of correct oils (e.g. Collector's Choice classic car motor oil) in the engine and gearbox and transmission. Hoses were all replaced recently, and car has been thoroughly checked over.
The walnut dash board and restored fascia was built in 1980 by Craig Seabrook, and is beautiful. All instruments work and are the correct ones for this early TD (e.g. chronometric tachometer and speedometer, correct domed-glass on every instrument). The interior is 100% leather including all side and interior door panels, and looks and feels today as good as when I first had it installed. I have been treating the leather regularly using premium products. Special attention has been paid to getting the details of this car's restoration all correct.Included is a Bluemels/Brooklands steering wheel with the proper TD-hub, and the dash instrument-cluster was painted black to complement the steering wheel color. A very attractive and vintage-correct option.
Other notable features of this car include the luggage rack, period-correct Lucas SFT 576 fog light, stainless-steel exhaust system, AMCO side wind deflectors, and a Brooklands hood strap - a period accessory that was installed many years ago.The five tires have been recently replaced with Michelin-XZX 165SR15. The car comes with complete weather equipment all Stayfast material: convertible top, all side curtains, and a full tonneau cover. There is a hand crank and an original (not a reprint or copy) shop manual included.
This car was registered by me with the New England MG T-Registery back in 1979, and therefore has an early register number 6936. I have a very large file recording all historical work and restoration performed on this car.
This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION:I am selling this family heirloom in order to help purchase the car of my dreams. More photos, including those showing the beautifully finished undercarriage, are available upon request. Check my eBay feedback profile. I have a seller's reputation for being very conservative, and most folks say my items meet or exceed my descriptions. You will not be disappointed.
Seller will help and coordinate with pickup. Buyer is responsible for all transportation costs. Please contact seller (713-855-7512, email russelhertzog@gmail.com, or by eBay message) if you have any questions.
In response to a question from a potential buyer:Thanks David, for your interest. I tried sending you a reply just a few minutes ago, but eBay said there was a problem, perhaps because I attached a few more photos for you. To answer your questions - There are no issues with this car that need attention, although the clock sometimes takes a few re-starts to keep running. All mechanicals - engine, transmission, differential, steering, etc. work 100% as new. No grinding, or any unusual noises. The top is usually folded, and as you noticed it is now a bit wrinkled. A day open and unfolded will fix that. I just unfolded it for my photo shoot. Side curtains and top are all nice - without tears or holes.
