1950 MG TD Additional Info:
This car is a reliable early MG TD (VIN TD 0684) I have owned for 38 years. It was the 433rd car, built on Feb. 9, 1950. I had it restored in 1979-80 and have used it sparingly over the entire time since. Back then it was a "First-in-Class" show trophy winner, but these days I would characterize it as a very beautiful, and reliable "Driver-Level" car. It would only take a new paint refresh to bring it back to becoming a show car again. Mechanically, the car is extremely good, and has no issues. In fact, I never really had any problems with it except once: years ago, one of the brake drums became warped when I drove it with the parking brake slightly engaged. After that, I had all the brake drums replaced. I have consistently kept the car in good maintenance, by using the best grades of correct oils (e.g. classic motor oil) in the engine and gearbox and transmission. Hoses were all replaced recently, and I am going through the car this week (which is why some of my pictures show the car on jack-stands in my garage) to check for any leaks and make sure all fluids are ready for the winter season.
The dash board was built in 1980 by Craig Seabrook, and is beautiful. All instruments work and are the correct ones for this early TD (e.g. chronometric tachometer and speedometer, correct domed-glass on every instrument). The interior is 100% leather (including all side and interior door panels, and will add more pictures soon), and looks today as good as when I first had it installed. I have been treating the leather regularly using premium Lexol products. Special attention has been paid to getting the details of this car's restoration all correct. One exception is the Bluemels/Brooklands steering wheel with the proper TD-hub, and the dash-facia painted black to complement the steering wheel color. A very attractive and vintage-correct option. Other notable features of this car include the luggage rack, period-correct (1950 vintage) Lucas 462 fog light (there are two on the car in the photos, but I would like to keep one for my TC). The five tires have been recently replaced with Michelin-XZX 165SR15. A Brooklands hood strap, also a period accessory was installed many years ago. These were required for racing on the Brooklands track in the UK, although I never, ever raced this car. The car comes with complete weather equipment all Stayfast material: convertible top, all side curtains, and a full tonneau cover. There is a partial tool kit and a hand crank included.
This car was registered with the New England MG T-Registery back in 1979, and therefore has an early register number 6936. I have a very large file recording all historical work and restoration performed on this car.
I am selling this family heirloom (see photo from 1979 when my kids were small) in order to help purchase the car of my dreams.
This car will not disappoint, and it will make a nice Christmas gift for for someone. I am open to offers...
