1978 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Additional Info:

Here's a NO RESERVE auction on our 1978 Mercury Cougar XR7. Over $10,000 was spent on this car with many receipts. Rebuilt 351 V8 motor and rebuilt transmission. Why that was done at so low miles, I don't know, but there are receipts in the glove-box detailing the work. A performance camshaft was added at this time with a little more lift and duration. It's in very nice condition. Some rust, but NOT bad. Everything works, but the cruise-control cable needs to be hooked back up to the carburetor (cruise was working before the motor was taken out to be rebuilt), and the A/C was working, but when they unhooked the lines to do the engine, it never got a recharge of coolant when re-installed afterward (probably because it's the old R-12 system, but they can be converted to modern 134a). The sad part is a small tree limb fell across the roof. My plan was just to buy the white vinyl roof kit for a Thunderbird (same car essentially), and straighten/fill that dent, then cover it with vinyl to match the rear half, so that portion wouldn't need to be re-painted. The paint is still nice and glossy, but has dings and scratches. The headlight switch works just fine, but needs the knob collar replaced, so you have to reach up under the dash to push outward on it in order to shut off the lights, but it's just something I never got around to replacing. They're available at most auto-parts stores. It's not a perfect show-car, but is a beautiful driver. These are great old cars. I've got both the original wheels for it, and the Mustang Bullit wheels. Good power, AM radio, but there is a factor FM one in the trunk. The carburetor stumbles just slightly when you first start off from a stop, but the car is super reliable and road worthy overall. I've driven it all over, and wouldn't hesitate to go on a long road trip with it. The interior is in mint condition. The car gets constant complements every I drive it. I was using it for my daily driver all Summer. It could use tie-rods, and the front brake rotors turned, but is perfectly drivable the way it is. Clean title in my name. Jason Stone in Mason City, Iowa 64l 5l2 5229 I've priced it to sell. I'm going through some health issues and a divorce, unfortunately, and have to sell off a bunch of my cool classic cars quickly. Thanks for looking.
