This car started out in Oregon and with 31k Miles it was sold to the second owner in Arizona where it has spent the majority of its life (Triple AAA Decals intact!). It was then sold to the most recent private owners in Illinois in 2016. This is a fantastic example of a 66 Monterey. You are looking at a fantastic example of a 1966 Mercury Monterey 2 Door Hardtop Fastback. It is in it’s original colorway and shows very nicely, largely original and very much a survivor.. The car is a well sorted driver as it is, or a perfect candidate to make a show car out of.
The exterior is complete and shows in great condition. We note 1 repaint in the same color. I would guess the paint was done 30+ years ago. There are some blemishes in the paint that we did our best to highlight but for the most part shows very nicely. A couple areas of some oxidatio/ light rusting on both ¼ panels just rear of the wheel wells. The rust doest not penetrate the metal as far as we can see. Beyond this the car is rust free top to bottom. The trim is complete with emblems and mouldings. The bumpers show very clean and straight. The panel fitment throughout is great. Lights are clear and shine nicely. Glass is great. Overall the outside of this fastback looks great and wont disappoint.
The interior shows largely original and in fantastic condition. As you can see the dash is excellent as are the switches and louvers, etc...The seats are in great shape with a small tear noted in the drives side. The carpet is excellent as are the door panels and all hardware. Headliner is taught and clean. All windows move nice and freely. The interior is truly fantastic for its vintage and originality.
Under the hood sits the original 390 V8. As noted above this appears to be a factory AC car as we have the compressor in the trunk and all mounting brackets and lines are still in the car. The interior also has the correct AC selector in the dash. The original carburetors is present although it has been upgraded to a new Edelbrock 4bbl. The engine fires right up and takes a nice smooth idle. It revs perfectly and runs out nicely. It is a very well sorted car, mechanically. It stops nice and straight with power brakes. All lights and signals work as they should as do the wipes. We note a slow drip from the transmission when parked over time. We also note that when it is below freezing outside it takes its time getting into Drive or Reverse. This goes away when all fluids are at temperature. The underside of the car is incredibly dry and nice as you can see. It shows largely original and has been maintained.
