1972 Mercury Cougar XR7 Additional Info:
1972 Mercury Cougar XR7 in Ivy Brown, 351 V8, 3 Speed Auto Transmission, 94,161 original miles.
This classic Cougar has had the same owner for 48 years prior to the currentowners (2 owners total). It is in great mechanical condition with the engine usually starting with one crank and most of theadditional options still function. These include the A/C andradio in perfect working function. I have invested in thisfantastic car so youwon't have to! The Cougar came from the factory with the following options:
- FMX automatic transmission
- Tilt Steering wheel
- Power Steering
- Power front disk brakes
- Wisper-Aire air conditioner
- AM stereo
- Sports console with clock
- Interval windshield wipers- Leather seats- Wood grain dash
The car has had the following replaced to bring it back into good running and driving condition (completed Nov-Dec of 2019):
- Battery
- OEM equivalent Ivy brown vinyl top- New power steering unit
- Fuel sender, pump, and filter- RebuiltCarburetor
- Spark plugs, wires, and distributor
- Drive belts and idler pulley- Complete Tune up
- All fluids and filters (coolant, engine oil and filter, power steering, transmission oil and filter, brake fluid)
- Front brake pads, rear shoes, rear wheel cylinders, and rear drum springs and adjusters
- Shocks front and rear
- Engine vacuum hoses- Rear tail lights we converted to OEM equivalent LED lights (sequential function still works)
This Cougar is nearly 50 years old and was a daily driver up until 2017, since then it has been driven lightly every 2-3 weeks to ensure enginecontinues to run smoothly. The Cougar is in good overall condition, however you can expect the normal wear and tear of a nearly 50 year old daily driver. With that said, here is an honest list of the issues I have come across getting this car road worthy:
- Passenger siderear bumper has a dent (included in pictures)- Driver and passenger doors have small scratches
- The vinyl top was replaced because previous one was peeling and generally damaged due to the elements.
- The paint has patches that are lighter in color (mainly on the hood)
- The interior is in good condition with typical wear to the drivers andpassenger seat, rear passenger seats look nearly new.
- Interior clock does not work
- Trunk floor mat has small cracks due to old age- Headliner has very small tears, and a slightly more visible one above the rear passenger seat- Driver side mirror cracked at the base, but still solidly in place- Passenger side door handle wasrepaired with a nut? This was done byprevious owner itworks, butisn't that pleasantto look at (see pictures)- The rear "XR7" logounfortunately fell off duringthe last detail tothe car, I did save it inthe glove box though. These are minor cosmetic issues that can be easily fixed, besides that the car runs excellent and is always great to drive!
